Hi ladies. I have read some posts about some of you that are experiencing stomach problems, and i myself have ibs. i was wondering if anyone else is afraid of their stomach acting up on their wedding day. It makes me really nervous to think about(which of course will make my stomach worse) i don't take any medications and was wondering if any of you are taking any you can suggest. my main problem is diarrhea and i would love to hear about any medication that could make me feel a little better. thanks ladies. (we should start our own tummy support group )

Re: Stomach Troubles
Me too! I'm so happy that I'm not alone on this. FH is starting to lose his patience with me and my stomach. I'm a complete mess! I have to pop a Lactaid pill with every tiny bite of dairy, otherwise I'm done! I try and only drink Lactaid milk or Dairy Ease, which isn't too bad with my cereal. Gas-X chewables, aside from my Lactaid Pills, are my new best friends. I get cramps in my stomach almost every night now to the point where I double over in pain until I can pop those pills! It's gotten real bad recently. I'm making an appointment today to go to the doctor.
I'm thinking now that I've been eating and awful lot of carbs lately... I'm going to try and cut back, maybe that will help me...

Re: Stomach Troubles
I'm in the same boat... I plan on loading up on immodium and eating very bland in the days proceeding and the day of the wedding.
I keep telling everyone how great the food is going to be and I won't be able to enjoy it.

has anyone tried any of the non dairy milks? are they gross?
I have used lactaid milk. Drinking it alone is Gross but in cereal it is good! Lactaid also has an icecream called Lactaid Scoopfuls - chocolate chocolate chip. It is yummy!
...And this doesnt bother your stomach at all? Maybe I should try it. I have been putting half and half in my cereal and that doesnt seem to bother me.

Re: Stomach Troubles
I have moderate to severe IBS with your same conditions.
I am on medication.. started with Levsin and moved on up in strength.
I recently started taking Fiber capsules. Two a day in the evening.. it's helped SO VERY MUCH. Give it a try now.
As far as foods to avoid.. for me it's fatty foods. Greasy stuff. Im ok with pasta and bread (low on butter) but high fatty things like Pizza, hamburgers or Hotdogs kill me. Oh, and fried chicken skin.

NOPE! It's a God sent-- really! I live on it and use it for everything I cook, eat, etc. Boy does it help! And there is no difference in taste of the foods.
I just wish more restaurants, deli's, dunkin' donuts offered it...

Thanks! I think I am going to try that! I miss just being able to have a bowl of cereal in the mornings~ I feel like lately my stomach is getting worse when I experiment with diff't foods, but like I said i am a picky eater. Chicken fingers are my fav. and they never make me sick when i go out to eat, I stick with what I know won't make me sick. I don't know if it is just my stomach being weird lately, or if there really something wrong. I hope this isn't the start of problems to come!

I take them as well - just fibercon. Duane Reede has them. You have to drink a ton of water when taking them, otherwise they work a little too well.

If anyone has stomach problems right after they eat, try taking Papaya pills. I know they make me feel a little bit better....in the time of need. Scott

Re: Stomach Troubles
My SIL had a lot of the same problems that you guys are describing and took a lot of the same meds and they worked for a while. When she got pregnant it became unbearable and she ended up misscarrying that baby but she went through extensive tests and found out what they thought was ibs and other general stomach problems was really celiac disease. ASK YOUR DOCTORS TO TEST YOU!!! ..they wont if you dont ask. here is a website that gives a lot of good info http://www.celiac.com/
I hope this helped someone

Re: Stomach Troubles
I have been doing good. I am no longer on Low carb and I have been eating pretty normally. I try not to eat white floured foods and I still to a lot of whole grain breads, and cereals. I also started eating alot of fruits and melons. I noticed if I eat plums, peaches, canteloup, honeydew, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, or watermelon, my stomach doesnt bother me after. I also eat one banana a day.
I cannot eat oranges, grapefruit or apples....I will be asking for trouble if I do.
I know at the wedding and on the honeymoon I may have some trouble, but I will just take something before and I will be ok....Gotta love stomach nerves. Scott

Re: Stomach Troubles
I have CRohn's disease but I was fine on the wedding day. I think it's in 'remission' right now. At times I have pains but I don't get the runs anymore.
I take meds specific to crohn's so I can't really help there.
Isn't there a new med on the market for IBS? I've seen the ads in women's magazines. I forget the name of it.
Or would imodium help?
I do find that when I eat less grains, wheat, & dairy I feel better, but it's hard to avoid them all the time. Also some people with IBS do good eating fiber, so who knows - what works for one may not for another. But I would stay away from dairy a week or so before the wedding, and sugary stuff too, if you can. It can't hurt ya know?
Also, I take enteric coated fish oil. It's enteric coated so it dissolves in my colon and not the stomach but my dr. said he's seen reports that it has a soothing effect on the colon. Maybe fish oil might help you. Salmon is of couse loaded with it.
Good luck

Groovypeg - I spoke with you about diet once before a while ago. I was wondering... what do you eat? Lately EVERYTHING is bothering me Its probably the wedding stress.
my ibs comes in waves. i find that if i eat alot of carbs it is worse. lately i have been eating alot of grilled chicken, lean meats on bbq, alot of fish and steamed veggies. also i virtually stopped eating diary with the exception of yogurts.
I have done alot of online research on how food reacts with the gut. I found this one resource that basically says eating a diet of no refined carbs (ie: rice bread processed foods and sugar) but yes to protein and hard aged cheeses, nuts, and fruit can help IBS/colitis/crohn's/celiacs/gluten allergies.
It all has to do with the sugars in carbs and how it breaks down the natural occuring bacteria in the gut. That's probably why you can also tolerate yogurt because it has contains bacteria and probiotics. It's a diet actually that you follow called Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I don't really do it anymore because it's really so restrictive and a PITA to do. But Google it if you're interested.
I'm glad you're feeling better

Re: Stomach Troubles
I too have IBS and I take Donnatal for it. I am suppossed to take it every day but I forget and end up taking it when I feel bad. I always make sure I take one before I go anywhere that I may be eating foods that are not the best for it or where I want to make sure I can make it through. I am going to try and remember to start taking it everyday so I am ok for the wedding.

Re: Stomach Troubles
sorry one more
I also started taking probiotic pills. I found a brand called Klaire Labs in Jandi's in Oceanside. I found they helped me.
