Just an FYI - I've heard that ground turkey & chicken are alot worse for you than ground beef. They say that the butchers grind the poultry with the skin and that is far worse than than any fat beef might have in it.

Really? Where did you hear this?

I think I heard it on a show on the food network.
They said that the only way the ground poultry would be healtier is if the shin is taken off before they grind it, but supermarkets NEVER take the skin off. They said the only places that MIGHT do this are the gourmet markets & even those don't always.

This is just what I heard, but it does make sense, everyone knows how unhealthy chicken & turkey skin are & I truly doubt butchers strip it off before grinding it.

Perdue Ground Turkey = 7% fat
This is what's buy 1 get 1 free @ Stop N Shop.

As far as I'm concerned .. that fat content is okay .. because with turkey (or even chicken) you need that so when it cooks it's not too dry.

Any ground meat has to have some fat in it so it can cook properly. My point was that ground poultry is worse for you than ground beef, I'm not talking about the fat contents in the poultry, but more so the cholesterol. Poultry skin has tons of cholesterol in it!

Either way, I'm sure it's fine, it's not like we eat this type of food everday. The only reason I posted this was because many people think that ground poultry is healthy, but it really isn't that good for you.

So back to my question....How do you pick out steak? What type of steaks do you ladies buy to make on the BArbeque or on the George Foreman?
Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott,
DH and I buy all our meat/poultry at BJ's so here's what we usually get for steak:

Strip steaks
london broil (not too often tho bc its $$!)
round eye steaks
beef stew cubes

and one other one that I can't remember, but it's really great on the George Foreman grill!

I was looking at the round eye steaks yesterday and i didnt know if I should get them or not...I will be there friday, so I will get them then.

Flank Steaks are really delish too, but a wee bit pricey. They are very tender and pretty lean.

London Broil and round eye are good.

Flank is incredible-but yes a little pricey. I think they sell them at BJ's.

I just got back from Stop and Shop and got the soda deal. Woo-hoo!!

Okay-

If you have a coupon for the Chunky soups, they come down to .65 cents each. The Healthy Choice are 49 cents.

Kashi GoLean cereal is 1.10 a box after coupon in this week's paper.

Duncan Hines cake mix, buy 2, with this week's coupon they're .29 cents each.

I got this from Terislist.com, where they compare sales and coupons and figure out what the best buys are. I save like 50 - 60% every week. It's great.

Do you have to pay to be a member of Terislist.com?

No, you don't have to pay to be a member .. just go to customer service desk for a card.

As for steaks .. you really need to try out different cuts to determine what you like best.

Speaking stictly about steaks, as in whole steaks, not what you'd slice, like london broil or flank steak .. here's what we like, in no particular order:

Porterhouse
Shell Steak
NY Strip Steak
Sirloin Steak
Rib Eye Steak

Chuck is the cheapest cut of beef (I think) .. is great for using in stew .. and you can find it already cut into stew pieces.
