Several people have told me that I cannot invite people to my engagement party who have already given me a gift because it will be awkward. I think thats crazy. I want to celebrate with these people too- just because they gave early I cannot have them there because they may feel weird- is this true? I was thinking of sending a personal note with the invitation that says something along the lines of ' We would love to have you at our engagement party - lots of food and fun! I realize that people bring gifts to these things, but please know FH and I are still appreciating your generous gift and are not expecting anything more.' ??????????????? Thats also cheese? or just put 'no gifts' on bottom of their invite? Or just say something in person like ' Youuu knoooowww, like, don't bring a gift' or just say nothing and if they bring another gift say ' You already did! you didn't have to do this! Thank you'
agh.

Yes they should absolutely be invited, it would be rude not to!!!! They will be smart enough to know they already gave you a gift!

Yeah they might also not feel obligated to give if they already did...HONESTLY i think everyone is wrong, i would think that people who thought of you from the beginning and sent a gift with no obligation of a party deserve to be invited...I would feel a bit insulted if i had sent someone an engagement gift and then didnt get invited to the party so its quite the opposite. The whole note thing sounds great, and think it will work out.
Completely agree!!

I would absolutely invite them. i know i would feel insulted if i specifically went out of my way to get a gift and wasnt invited yet somebody who didnt get a gift was invited. keeping that in mind, just because someone gets you a gift it dosent mean that they have to be invited automatically. you should invite who you want and not feel obligated in any way. if you only invited people who didnt yet give you a gift, that assumes that the only reason why you invited people is to get something. that will probably leave a sour taste in many mouths. You know what to do!

Re: strange
Just invite them, dont worry about gifts. If people already sent them its up to them whether they want to give you a second gift or not.

That's not true! If they already gave you a gift then they wont feel obligated to give you one at the party! If anything, they would be insulted if you didn't invite them!

Re: strange
Invite them- obviously they cared enough to get you a gift in the beginning!!! And all gifts aside, if you want someone there and it is YOUR party- invite them!

Re: strange
of course u can invite them! but i wouldn't write anything....i think writing no gifts might confuse other people if word gets around. Most people know etiquett, and if they do end up bringing you a gift do the 'you didn't have to' phrase lol. if u want to talk to those few who already gave you gifts before hand then thats fine. but i wouldn't write anything in the invite. Good luck!

Re: strange
Invite whoever you want as long as you plan on inviting them to your wedding. If they already bought you a gift, its on them to buy you another, just like its up to everyone else to bring you something.
WHat I think theyll do is come and just bring you another card with well wishes!
