Is anyone just inviting people to the church and not the reception? I have a huge guest list but there are people from my old jobs/internships that I would like to send something so they can come to the church if they want - without feeling obligated to bring a gift. Should I send them something with the info or just tell them verbally. Just wondering what everyone else was doing... Thanks

Strange question - I think
Maybe you could send these people different invitations that say the church info and then say something like 'no gifts please-your presence is gift enough'?

i was invited once to the church for an ex-boyfriends sister, because his new girlfriend and I didn't get along and she was in the wedding party they couldn't invite me to the reception - they told me verbally they wanted me at the church and then sent me an invitation which included only the church information. I went and then mailed a card to them.

You can send or hand an invite to the ceremony to anyone. But you should never tell someone to bring or not to bring a gift. Most people, like neighors or co-worksers, will go to the Church and they do not typically bring a gift. If someone does bring a gift, that is their choice and you should just thank them and send a thank you card. Only place reception cards in the invites on those guests which you want to invite to the reception. It is not considered rude to be invited to the Church only, unless it is family.

I am a school librarian, so what I will do (because I couldn't possibly invite everyone I want to the reception) is get a clear picture frame, put one of my invitations in it, and place it on the big table in the Faculty Room. This is a way of saying, 'I'll be at the chapel at this time, if you'd like to come - I'd love for you to be there', without making them feel obligated. If you have an office of some sort where people eat, you could do this...good luck!

Thanks everybody. I also work in a school so I will do the invitation in the frame picture.
