stretch marks

I've been reading a lot of pregnancy magazines and there seem to be a lot of different lotions out there to prevent stretch marks. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a lotion that really works.

Re: stretch marks

The genetic makeup of your skin really determines it's elasticity, so using lotions aren't going to completely prevent stretch marks, but it will help ease the discomfort and itchiness of your stretched skin. I used the Cocoa Butter stick from The Body Shop through my whole pregnancy. I also used Suave Cocoa Butter lotion. I applied both in the morning and at night.

Post-pregnancy, I've been using Mederma to help fade the marks.

Re: stretch marks

No offense Nina, but...blech! I wouldn't put olive oil on my body!

Mederma does make a little bit of difference...it's not making them completely go away, but they are fading.

Question on stretch marks....

When do they start to appear - I am in my 8th month - would I be seeing them already?
I have some prior to being pregnant - on my hips - but so far none on my stomach - but maybe it's just because I can't see all of my stomach -
just curious as to when they start to appear -
Thanks in advance to the info.

Re: stretch marks

I remember seeing mine for the first time when I was 9 months. They are all under my bellybutton. VERY FAINT. As soon as Emma popped out, OMG. I couldnt believe them. They were bright red and actually hurt! Now they are fading and Im SOOO happy
