Stupid bridal gown question...
I just called my salon - I was told my dress should be in in July, and ordered it back in February. I was just checking on the status, and they said it's not in yet, so they'll check on it and to call back in a week. Now, I'm not worried, my wedding isn't until December. But, why do you think it takes soooooooo long for these dresses to come in? I mean, mine is an Alfred Angelo, I'm sure they have many in my size just sitting in their warehouse.
Thanks for helping me clear this one up - it just baffles me...

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I ordered my dress in November of 2001 and it didn't show until May or June 2002 (can't remember which now)! The explanation for my dress is that it is hand made and hand embroidered in the US as well as being made specifically to my measurements.
You have plenty of time..don't stress.

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I think, and this is my own opinion, Is they dont order them right away or if they do the company has the wedding date and waits to send them out. When Saymels in Astoria closed, I had ordered a bridesmaid dress there and they had me call the manufactor which was Lazaro and to make a long story short, the girl told me it wasnt being shipped for awhile so call back in a month or so. Then I ended up ordering from another salon which was doing the other bridesmaids dresses, they had order them at least a month before this and when I called them, she told me she needed my sizes before Tuesday thats when she was placing the order, so this was at least a month after all girls were already fitted.
so this may happen either the salon or manufactor takes there time a waits to order depending on wedding date.
like I said this is just my own experience, I always had every bridesmaid dress on time too.
good luck

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I ordered my dress in February and they told my my dress would be in the first week in July. The dress never came in. Finally, I got a phonecall yesterday telling me my dress came in.They told me (I have an Eve of Milady) that they only ship dresses out twice a year and they come from the Orient.
I have no idea. But, you're fine. I'm getting married in October and mine just came in...so you have a few more months that me to play with!
Just don't stress because that's what I started to do....it will come in!

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
Ber: Just wanted to let you know that I know for a fact my shop ordered my dress right after I put a deposit down. I only know that by an accidental conversation I ended up having with my designer but it is true.Saymels is probably a totally different story but reputable salons will put the order in right away.

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I would keep checking back with them. You want to be sure it is in soon with plenty of time available in case there is a problem. I'm sure it will be in soon. Just keep checking.

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I dont doubt they do order it right away, this was only a bridesmaid dress anyway BUT Saymels did order it, It was the manufactor that was the one waiting. So in this case Saymels was not wrong.
And then I was talking about another salon where I ended up ordering the dress from and they waited to order the bridesmaid dress and this was a pricey place.
so I was just offering my experience, which will be very different from everyone elses but these things do happen and it may not be the salon but the manufactors (the source)
i hope most salons would order them right away, if not I would be pissed, ya know!

another thing
When i was at salon trying on dresses the saleslady gave me some helpful hints. She told me about someone who ordered her dress early and when it came in she didnt look at it closely and didnt try it on.
and waiting awhile, she ordered it like a year ahead of time or something like that.
well when she finally tryed it on it either didnt fit or something was wrong with the dress (not sure of exact story)
She was just basically telling me NO Matter when you order your dress, when it comes in go in and try it on. I wont have this problem since I havent order my dress yet, so I am ordering much later then most of you.
just a tip, even though most people probably do this, but everyone in the bridal party and mother of the bride too, should do this right away, just in case.
good luck everyone

Re: Stupid bridal gown question...
I just ordered my gown on Monday and I was told it would take 6-9 months and that most likely it will be closer to the 9 month mark. My wedding is next July, so I'm looking at getting it in March or April.

Re: another thing
I think it's a few things - #1, some salons don't place the order right away, #2, it's acceptable to most of us brides to wait a long time for the dress, so then why rush the salon or manufacturer?! LOLI ordered my gown 9/01 and it came in early May.

Re: another thing
hey no problem, I didtn take an offense, its hard when we are typing.Basically there will be so many different instances, as long as we all get our dresses on time and there is nothing wrong with it - that all that matters.
good luck to all
