The Plagerizer did NOT show up for class yesterday, so I couldn't discuss with him. He probably read the paper and realized how much he f*cked up. I can turn him in for academic dishonesty, but then he'd be expelled and it would be on his transcript forever. I tend to think that at age 18 students are just immature and don't realize the repercussions of something like this, so I tend to just fail them for the class or assignment and hope that thats enough of a learning experience for them. I'd hate to ruin his entire academic 'career' b/c of an immature and stupid mistake.

that honestly just makes me mad, thankfully your a good professor and actually read everything and actually pick up on plagorizm. I know too many students who get away with it. And if there not repremanded for it they keep doing it!

I teach developmental writing to freshmen. Right now they are in the process of doing a research paper. I had them write their introductions a couple of weeks ago and one of them was verbatim from a breast cancer website. I pointed out that he can use the information but had to cite it properly and needed to be redone.

Aw, my developmental writing students are SO much better than my freshman comp class! I hope they all register for my class next semester.

He's lucky to have you as a teacher. He just needs to be taught a lesson about the repercussions of something like this not for his whole academic career be ruined, like you said. He probably still thinks he's in high school! I plagiarized like CRAZY in HS. The smart thing for him to do would be to reach out to you first and apologize.

So, I teach Freshman Comp. I teach this class to FRESHMAN. These freshman must take my class in order to earn their ASSOCIATES DEGREE.

Their assignment last week was to write a comparative essay. One student decided to 'write' his essay on his search for the ideal college. Clearly he didnt even READ the paper before he plagerized it, b/c his final statement was as follows:

'Now, four years later, having earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, I now know that SUNY Albany was the right choice for me.'

Ah, stupid 18 year olds.

Wow!........ What a moron
