i am thinking of doing assoreted size pillar candles on a mirror base with a floral ring around the base maybe, instead of a floral centerpiece. I'm also thinking of doing bud vases at the place settings in addition. has anyone seen anything similar to this or have any opinions on it? thanks!

centerpieces
Just wondering, are you doing this to save money? The reason I ask is b/c this might add up and cost the same as a fresh flower arrangement. I am getting a small fishbowl w/ roses and lillies for $40 each (but only 7 tables). I like both of your ideas individually, but when I try to picture it, i think it might be a little crowded and you can get away w/ only one or the other (bud vases or centerpeice). Of course, I don't know what the tables look like. Also if you do the bud vases, how many people do you have per table? I prefer 'the simpler the better', but that's just my taste.

centerpieces
I have seen candle arrangements that sound similiar to what you are describing, and I think they are simple and elegant. The wedding I went to where centerpieces like that were used was very small, and this added to the intimate effect. I think Nina is right about using both of your ideas together ~ the table may get a bit crowded.

Macy's and Michaels has them...
A friend of mine used the candles on a gold plate with rocks around them. It look great and saved her alot of money. She bought them at Macy's when they were on sale for $9. I also like the look of the bud vases pushed together, then they can be divided up to give to the guests. I think that is alittle more expensive. Good Luck!

I'm doing something similar. I am using those big 3-wick candles with a flower ring around them, and my catering hall gives us tapers that I will put on the sides. I went back to the store and bought the 1' flower rings to go around the tapers to fill up the table a little bit more. I don't know if there is a Joannes Craft store on LI, but that is where I got mine. The candle and the big ring cost $10 together (I bought them on sale) and the smaller rings were a $1.50 each, so my centerpieces weren't that expensive. I took them to the hall to make sure it was big enough for the table, and it was.
