'suggested' donation - getting married in Church

Original post by christine2010

I forgot to ask what the 'suggested' donation is for the Church I am getting married at. What is your 'suggested' donation?

$625 for the church and music is what we are required to pay and then $75 for Pre Cana and we already paid $25 for the FOCCUS.

Ours isn't a donation..it's a fee. I think it's $750

Unfortunately ours isn't a 'suggestion' either. It's $700 and that is before Pre-Cana too

Ours was $700. Plus extra fee for choir (think it was either $300 or $350) and my parents gave priest & choir director a tip - which brought it well over $1000...

How do people pay these 'donations' when they are on a very fixed income? It seems unfair esp when a couple wants to get married in a church before God. Couples/Families should be able to just give what they can afford...not a 'set amount' determined by each church/parish...IMHO

2% of our annual income is suggested, but we can give whatever we feel we can handle. (we gave less than 2%).
