My FH doesn't want to wear a tux on our wedding day, but I think I've gotten him to agree to it. He owns one so he might as well wear it! But I've seen lots of photos of grooms in khakis and a dark blazer, nice shirt and a nice tie ... and I kinda like the way it looks .... and I am thinking that if I offer it to FH, it will give him the feeling that more things are going 'his way' -- he has been complaining that I'm getting everything I want and he is getting nothing he wants :( So I feel a little bad.
What do you think? Do you think suits / khakis and jackets can look nice? And do you think it will give the wedding a too-casual look? will guests think they can 'dress down' if they hear FH is not wearing a tux?

Re: Suits instead of tuxes for BP?
Oh, wanted to add, we only have a best man, no groomsmen (just a MOH, too) so it would only be him and his bro in the suits .... maybe his dad and my dad ...? Do dads have to 'follow suit'? (NO PUN INTENDED THERE BUT THAT WAS FUNNY!)

I think all depend on the time of the wedding and where the wedding is and what look you want your wedding to have.... My FH is using a gray suit with white tie and shirt and I liked b/c we are having a sunday afternoon wedding.
P.S. I am also planning to used just a BM and a MOH

Re: Suits instead of tuxes for BP?
We are doing suits for everyone in the bridal party, including FH.
Dante Zeller had 3 choices of suits & we liked 2.
FH will be in a black pinstripe suit with black pinstripes (looks very dapper) and white shirt.
BP will be in plain black suit with black shirts & silver & white ties...
Oh - and we're having a Sunday night wedding...we just don't want it all that formal.
My dad also bought a suit & i'm sure his dad will 'follow suit' - sorry - just had to do it again!

Oh & here's one more thing I learned at Dante Zeller in Westbury...
The only thing that makes a tux a tux and NOT a suit is that the lapels are silk or satin, the pocket liners are too & so are the buttons...
It's very likely no one will notice the difference!!

My FH refuses to wear a tux, personally I dont like them either, he doesnt want to look like a penguin or waiter on his day (his exact words). I love the idea of a suit, like a beige one, not white. But does the BP wear tuxes or suits that match the groom????

Re: Suits instead of tuxes for BP?
I was just having this problem with the FH! He actually owns both a really nice suit and a tux, and he would prefer the suit (he thinks tuxs make him look short ). My family raised an unholy hell about the idea of him or the BM (his bro) not wearing a tux, so I think I’ve talked him into it, but not so much his bro. Our is a Saturday evening/night wedding, so I guess it’s formal because of the time of day, but not because of anything we’re necessarily going for.

Re: Suits instead of tuxes for BP?
AHHHH Not sure what to do!!! I do not want to mention any of this to FH yet because I am not sure what I would like.
He owns a tux because of a rental problem with his best friend's wedding (they tried to rent tuxes 4 DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING, guys are so dumb), but he looks too formal in it. He's a very relaxed, laid back person. Look at my profile pic, you'll see what I mean. I think you can wear a tie with a tux, i think it would look nice, FH says NO WAY!
He also owns a nice new suit, but it's dark -- I would like somehting a little lighter -- but I do not really want to spend more money on formal attire for him since he hardly wears it.
That is why I think dark khakis and a dark jacket would be nice - he can wear them again separately and it wouldn't be too much of a waste of money.
BUT I do not want it to look too informal. And I want guests to still dress up as if it was a night wedding (no gowns for women though except for for my mom and FMIL).
ANY IDEAS?????

Re: Suits instead of tuxes for BP?
we are also doing suits instead of tuxes and we only have a MOH and BM too! we are getting married on a sunday afternoon and i felt like a tux would be too overdressed...especially for the gardens at the swan club. i don't think you should worry about the guests under dressing. most people will ask you if they have any doubt and i feel like people tend to dress up for weddings if they aren't sure. i've seen tons of pics on the knot of men in khaki suits or in dark suits...either way i think looks awesome! check out their photo section of real weddings and you'll find a ton of ideas!
