Super productive day!!!
I think today was the most productive day FH and I have ever had, and I am BEAT!
First, we checked out a potential home, and while it wasn't the normal disasters we've been seeing, it still wasn't the right place for us. Sigh. Of course, it being literally across the street from my house didn't help matters...
Then we went off to the travel agent to get some more info on the Key West minimoon. She didn't try to talk us out of it per se, but did reinforce the fact that the travel there would be difficult and expensive, and if we're only going 4 days, only 2 of them are actually usable. She suggested we consider Puerto Rico as an alternative, because it's warmer, better beaches, more direct to get to, and still US territories as well. FH had mentioned the possibility on his own a few weeks ago but I kind of brushed it off. Now we're going to reconsider it, and we have our final appointment with in one week after she gets back from vacation and it will be booked, whether it be FL or PR. Any feedback on PR???
THEN, we traipsed over to Rogers in Smithtown, and I can't say enough good things about them. Our girl really knew her stuff and was really helpful, and we picked out all the tuxes and vests and ties. FH will be wearing a two-button notch because it has a slight european cut which he needs as a smaller guy, with an ivory satin vest and tie with ivory shirt. The guys will be wearing a one-button notch, because we wanted FH to stand out a bit, and they're bigger guys so they can get away with a fuller cut. They're going to wear black vests, and a burgundy taffeta tie that matches the BM dresses exactly! Also ivory shirt. I didn't think I wanted to pick up the burgundy of the dresses, but I never thought about mixing the tie and vest like that, and it was perfect. And their prices were extremely reasonable. Highly recommend!
Then we went allllllllllll the way out to Massapequa and went to Good Old Gold, and FH ordered his ring! No pics, we can't find it online, but it's white gold and has almost an arrowhead design etched in the middle with a milgrain around it. We also priced out the equivalent ring that I had wanted from Zales, but it turned out to be way more than we were willing to spend, so we didn't get it.
We were all prepared to suck it up and just go back to Zales, but on the way back FH said lets go to the Busy Bee, which was right there, because he had remembered the name from his e-ring research. So we stop in, and we were shocked at their low prices. They had the ring I wanted, and it was the same price as Zales (which had tacked on an order fee and mandatory insurance bringing it up to that level anyways), but the stones were significantly higher in color and clarity. The setting was a little high, but they had another setting that rested a little lower in a higher carat size, so they're going to order the flatter setting with smaller stones for me, and it will be ready in one or two weeks! FH wanted me to sleep on it initially, but I think for that price we weren't going to beat it. I know it's not mentioned a lot on LIW, but that doesn't always mean anything! I'm hopeful everything will go smoothly.
So yayyy!!!! Tuxes, rings, and getting closer with minimoon! Now I must get some sleep, otherwise I'm going to be all puffy eyed for my shower tomorrow!![]()
