Just curious. Im going to say me. I cant stand when people try to rationalize with a 2 year old kid..

If your three year old runs out in to the street after you continually tell him not to, a smack on the rear would be acceptable.
Now is not the time to rationalize with him about the dangers of doing that.

I don't think there is a thin line between what's abusive and what isn't...

Brave soul, only a matter of time till we get slammed

But anyway. I think its okay also. I think the occasional slap in tush is ok. I think some parents are way to lax and I dont think kids really get it and to tell you the truth fear of my parents is what kept me in line

I do. I grew up in Caribbean and in the country, that is how I know things to be. I have seen kids curse their parents out in the street...there is no way I could stand for something like that....

ps - the kid was 5

Yeah, kids just dont respect anyone. But then again thats acceptable in society and parents are the worst offenders. Its takes a whole community to raise a child only when it benefits them, if you dare try to tell someone elses kid that what they did is not nice. You better watch out

See people are shocked at that but not at kids totally disrespecting people

I don't like violence, but I think some children needed a little tap on the butt to get their attention. Anything that leaves red stingy marks or black and blues, etc. is uncalled for.

I also think that any person who wants to smack a child, should smack their own hand or leg first to realize their own strength and know that a child will feel it 10 times harder.

I think most people find it cute or funny too when a kid curses.
It's hard not to laugh...But it's so bad to do so.

wacky you took the words out of my mouth on that one................

I guess we all needs to take the shrink approach

'He is trying to find himself'
'He is lashing out becasue of some deep seeded issues'' He has been traumatized'

How about sometimes kids try to push you to see how far they are going to get and you need to let them know that they areno going to get very far. That one workd for me.....

I agree. And I don't think they should do it in a public place like Butterfly said...
I was doing laundry the other day and this baby was screaming (she was about 2 or 3)...I mean SCREAMING her head off...Having a tantrum...I wanted to smack her myself...Her parents were just ignoring her and trying to talk to her...I wanted to smack them too.

A little spank on the toosh is not going to hurt the child - its for the child to realize he is wrong - and that you are an authoritative figure - if you lay the law down when teh child is young, then the child will behave appropriately because he wont want to let the parent down. (that sounds harsh - but i just mean that the child needs to obey and there is a reason why you are the parent and at that age why you know what is best) - ok of course i am speaking from an inexperienced persons view - ihave no kids - so my little theory may not even work - i grew up where spanking was the norm and we were kept in place by having the fear of god instilled into us - I do not agree with that - and always told myself i would never treat my child like that to that degree.

When I was babysitting at my house once - the little boy was eating a peach very very messily and was getting himself dirty - i tucked a napkin into his shirt so that it wont get dirty and he would take it off - my mom slapped him on the cheek - not hard - but he was crying out of shock because i dont think his parents ever did slap him - i just went off on her because i remember being smacked and hating it; aside from teh fact that this wasnt my or her kid! It did work though - he ate his peach quietly and let the napkin be placed over his shirt.

I believe in spanking..maybe not as the first 'level' of punishment....but if it's called for, the kids' getting a hand across the tush

That is cute?! I think it's cute when kids drool all over the place , not curse. There must be something wrong with me. I must be REAL old school.

eta - when does it stop being cute?

I hate all kinds of corporal punishment dealt out on a child.. as did my folks.. they didn't hit me at all.. maybe a couple of times.. and that was when I admit I was WAAAAY over the line. I think personally I deserved a smack on the hinny a little more. I don't like what some parents do.. 'Time-Outs' seem stupid to me and just give a kid more time to plot.. LOL

I think a tap is acceptable. Abuse is never OK. And I think mental punishment is just as bad as physical. A parent has to be careful. They should never try to be the child's friend but they shouldn't go crazy and slap the crap out of a kid either.
