I wasn't ever beaten badly, but I was spanked and thank god for that!! I deserved the spankings I did get b/c I was fresh!

I see these kids today kicking, screaming and crying.. that is just a no-no in my book.. none of that crap will go on.. or kids who talk back to their parents...

no way

I agree 1000%

Well all I know is my aunt is doing this martha stewart mother thing and it sure as hell ain't working..........

Also that is the other problem. Why do people make these 'children' out to be adults. They are not going to think that hitting people is fine if you as their mother hit them........unless you walk around hitting people all the time. To me it is quite different. I have never hit anyone in my life and I was beaten as a child

what is the martha stewart mother thing?

See that is why I like when we talk openly on things, b/c we get to see all sides to a topic and we all learn. Doesn't mean anyone is trying to influence or change your view or force their opinoins on you. But we know there are other options

I had to laugh at your first comment, and if its not working, why is your aunt not trying something else, like some good licks on her tail. As my GF would say, tear her butt up

Even tho I got spanked it never made me to be someone who liked to hit or who did not know that hitting others was wrong. There is discipline and there is abuse, a whole other topic.

These parents that are like, Jimmy what did mommy tell you? hello you cannot reason with that brat, it just makes me wonder. How many times are you going to repeat yourself???

I am just using martha stewart to convey that , wholesome 'my child is an angel', ' i love him too much to ever spank him''hand holding' type of mother.

You know they type who thinks that 10 year old cursing out their teacher is ok...etc. Where everything is a conversation when sometimes all the need is a spanking..

... please honey, Please Honey, PLEASE HONEY DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you all understand that it's not like I let my son get away with anything and I don't just let things go, I will remove my son from the situation and I do talk to him. Spanking is not the best way to get their attention, there are other ways!

Well it *did* get my attention as a child!
It sounds you have a lovely little boy, who doesn't need spanking or much reprimanding, so of course.... why would you even consider it? I wouldn't either if I were you!

that's what I am saying. I mean no one can stand the child. How much are you going to talk. O please I don't have the time, for all that DR. Phil action. My child can run his/her own show when he starts paying rent and taxes not before

...I am lucky, and I honestly don't know what it is like to have an out of control child, I just know that it wouldn't work with him. I'm not trying to 'preach' as some would think, I just know that when you are actually thrown in the trenches of parenthood things change and some things that you believed whole heartedly change, it's an amazing thing!

I agree!! and if my children are as sweet as yours, then spanking isn't necesssary, but if it is, I will use it..

The point I was trying to make, I will not be afraid to use it in fear that oh my child might hate me or he/she will not be my friend

NYCHICK you are silly when they start paying bills is an infamous last line of my mother. Or if you call the police, make sure you leave with them when they are leaving

Child abuse was big and up and coming when I was growing up.. I threatened to call child abuse one time and my mom told me to dial 9-1-1 instead, b/c she was going to killme! lol

Marcella, that's hysterical. My youngest brother used to have the number memorized, 18004ACHILD and used to scream it at my mother, lol. I don't see too many of those child abuse commercials anymore...

Maybe we need to have those numbers again That is too funny, so many of us from so many different parts of the world/country and parents do the same thing, are they all wrong???

No joke....my cousin was an absolute little b**ch and was always talking back, disobeying and sneaking out of the house. So one night her father caught her sneaking out, they had a blow-out, she called him something nasty and he smacked her. The next day she went to school, marched into the guidance counselor's office and reported her father for child abuse. The authorities promptly showed up at his place of business! Kids these days know....30 years ago, not only did your parents have the right to spank you, so did your grandparents!

My mom used to threaten us with the wooden spoon.....

Actually I thought it was very informative, and there was no name calling.

And Kptoys even offered to breast feed me DOnt ask read thread

I dont think that spanking should be used all the time but if I tell you once and I tell you twice there is no way Im going to end up like a broken record

I swear sometimes I see what moms go through with their kids, and Im like the kid is 2, 3 he doesnt care what you say.
