Has anyone dealt with any tackiness at any weddings they've been to?
I went to a wedding in August of this year and the first thing you see as you walk in were 3 2liter soda bottles sitting on each table, and when they finished you would have to go to the kitchen of the reception hall to get another soda bottle. Also there was a cashbar that was opened for an hour and for the next three hours the bar was completely closed. There was no cocktail hour..no hors d'oeuvres..no salad....NOTHING just a hard roll on the table. The cake cutting was not even announced, you had to be seated at the table to get a piece of cake if you weren't then no cake for you...lolololol.....Also one of the bridesmaids said to the bride during speech that she was her b*tch ..it was just so ghetto....lol
Anyone else had to deal with something like this?

These ppl were unfortunately NYers ...but i just don't understand if let's say they didn't have a huge budget, then why do it on a Saturday night where it might cost more. Instead do it on a Friday night or Sunday afternoon so you can do something better.

I definitely agree with Jenny that us New Yorkers go all out. I live in Connecticut and you should see the weddings here.
I mean....they have certain packages, top shelf liquor is considered a huge add on, meanwhile thats just standard by us. They don't do big entrees....a girl at my job was surprised to hear I am have shrimp as one of my seven entrees.
Just very different.

Re: Tackiness at weddings?
yea, weddings outside of Long Island/New York City area are just different. I went to college in PA and all of my friends from school that got married had completely different weddings. One of them didn't have a dj, they used a desktop computer for the music and the food was awful - it was a buffet with a bunch of strange looking food. another one had an open bar but the only alcohol available was what the bride and groom had brought to the RH. all of these was completely normal to the people from PA. i just found it very strange.

hmmm i was also thinking, maybe there could be a cultural explanation to all this... like if i decided to have a chinese reception instead of an american wedding there won't be like an open bar or anything and its traditionally a family style dinner with 10 courses...lots of red and gold decor at a chinese restaurant...

that is so true, good point. that's just like a lot of people think the dollar dance is tacky but in certain countries and cultures it is the norm and is only considered harmless fun. i never knew just how many people thought that was tacky until i came on this site. personally, i don't know if FH and I are doing this. as a little girl seeing it done it looked so freaking fun! I guess it depends on your guest. some people actually realize that it's not the bride and grooms way of begging for money, but i dunno!

I never even heard of a dollar dance only when i started watching Bridezillas. So like people pay the bride with dollars so they can dance with her...sounds interesting lol

The wedding i went to they just didn't put any time or effort into anything and they planned it super fast like in a 6 month time frame, i was told by their family. I was also told they were given a substantial monetary gift to use for their reception but instead they decided not to and did a chippy choppy reception....

Re: Tackiness at weddings?
I went to a very bad wedding at an LI recption hall I will not name (although I don't think any 2010 girls are getting married there anyway) The bride had no DJ just a lap-top and a friend played MC. The table cloths were dirty and used up looking. The bridesmaids just had any dress on... everything was so unorganized. The food was terrible & FH and I just wanted to leave! This wedding could have been alot better without spending more money...guess the bride didn't know about li weddings!! She also planned this mess for an entire year!!
