I was researching response card wording and came across this:
'Some guests will assume that their guests/dates/friends are of course invited, regardless of to whom you address the card. You can avoid these assumptions by writing “___ of ___ guest(s) will attend”, and then pre-filling in the second blank with the number of people that you are inviting. Some may find this slightly distasteful, but it certainly does get the point across!'
....What do you all think? Is filling in the blank or the specific names of the invited guest(s) tacky? I want to avoid as many awkward follow up phone calls as possible but I dont want to offend! We are allowing some singles to bring dates but not all..
What do your RSVP cards say? .....

I plan to do this. I've received cards with the number filled in...it's fine. You have to keep things under control.

We didn't do this, and maybe we just got lucky but we had no 'extra guests' issues!

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
i AM going to do something similar. Lets face it, i don't have money coming out of my a$$, and so people can't just assume that they can bring whoever they want. If someone has a long time boyfriend/girlfriend, then of course they will be invited. But if I have a single friend who just wants to bring some kind of date, forget it. Sorry, maybe in another economy it wouldn't be a big deal, but in this economy, it is.

LOL .... I haven't even sent out my invites yet a Few people have already begun with the 'can I bring a date' questions ...I feel horrible about saying no and just resort to the old ' We both have huge families' spiel ....which is true!
I am not sure what i will do rsvp card wise, but all I know is something has to be done!

yeah see? i mean, people don't understand that a wedding is friggen expensive!!!! And not for anything, but I don't want some shmo in my pictures, and then years later when the person who brought that date looks at the picture they are like 'ugh remember when i dated that loser???' I took a loser to my best friends wedding 2 years ago, and everytime i look at her pictures i say the same damn thing lol!

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
I've gotten them that say something like 'We have reserved __ seats in your honor' with 2 if I was invited with a guest or 1 if not. I never thought it was tacky at all.

Ooh fancy! ... that is a good idea, but I imagine it comes at an extra expense ( might be worth it if it saves some of the headache

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
It's hard to say. Like I have an Uncle who lives in CA. He has a 6 yr old dtr from his 3rd marriage and has now remarried to a woman that has a dtr herself. (Talk about Jerry Springer LOL). I am just inviting my Uncle and his wife. Although I have a feeling if they do come, I will have to deal w/the kids coming as well.
I think you should do whatever you feel you want to do. This is your day. Someone said before, you have to keep hings under control, especially if your paying for the wedding.

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
I did not do this. My card read Adult Reception. So people who thought teh kids were invited were mistaken.

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
I am doing this. I have gotten RSVP cards with the number of guests on it and I think it is fine. I think the people that would have a problem with it are the ones who would RSVP with 4 extra people anyway!

Re: Tacky? Response Card Wording
This is how I did mine:
M____________ ____seats have been reserved in your honor ____Accepts with pleaseure ____of_____will attend ____Declines with Regret
I will fill in all the names on the first line... Also, how many total seats... and I will also write 'of ______' so there's no confusion. I don't think it's taky at all..
