Tacky/Weird to not honeymoon right away?

Tacky/Weird to not honeymoon right away?

Sorry if this is long!...

I am applying for law school this Jan & it would start in Sept. of 2005. It was sort of a last min thing. See, most law programs are full time & I could never find a way to do them & quit my job - even with FI income. But one of the programs I love, Hoffstra, just started a 4 year P/T program. My FI is sooo amazingly supportive & wants me to do this so bad. He & my closest friends can see me as nothing else but a lawyer (I have an Masters in Social Work - so think advocacy...not chacing ambulances )

Problem - I'll be getting married on Sept. 4, 2005 & then going to my first day of classes Sept. 6, 2005.

Everyone (even my mom & BM's) keep saying you have to have a HM right away or push school off till 2006. I hate pushing school off b/c that pushes kids, house etc off.

I just don't know if this is tacky or weird to get married 2 days before the start of law school & put off the HM till probly winter break?

I wish people's negative opinions didn't matter but they do find a way of creeping under your skin....

I will be doing something similar this year. I start John Jay in the Fall and getting married in Oct. We will be taking a little 2 day out to Montauk then going to Hawaii in Dec or maybe on a cruise for Spring Break.

I voted for the 3rd choice. School is too important to you to push off and the weekend getaway will feel like a 'true' honeymoon if it is right after the wedding. Would still splurge on the trip in December though.

IMO, think logically. If you are going somewhere warm on your HM then why dont you wait until Dec? If your getting married right after the summer is over then you wont be as happy to go somewhere warm. If your HM is going to somewhere cold then your on your own...good luck!

I voted for #3. The honeymoon is nice, but setting up your future is much more important. Definiteley go to school. Is there any way you could move the wedding up like a month or even a few weeks to give you more time to relax before starting school??

i voted for the 3rd one... school is too important to put off. besides today more people wait on their honeymoon anyway.... most people i know don't leave until 1-2 weeks later or alot of people i know teach so they have to wait for the summer.
this is what i have to do so we might go to vegas the weekend after to get away but maybe not
it also depends if FH gets a different job.. then we will have to wait a whole year

if you don't mind waiting then do what pleases you
times change... honeymoons are not necessarily the next day... it is also nice to let everything settle down and then there is something to look foward to

NOT tacky in any way

I'm so glad I'm not alone! We tried to move the date up but they're booked & so are some of our vendors.

You guys are the best! I'll have to share this with my FI as son as get home tonight.

Take it from a full time grad student - get started on school ASAP! The honeymoon destinations will always be there, and after your first semester of law school, you will NEED a vacation!! Most of my friends who are getting married this year are postponing their honemoons for one reason or another. There's nothing tacky about it at all! Good luck!!

Yes I totally agree. go away for a night or 2 if you can & then take a real trip during a break.Looking forward to it will help you get through your first semester!

Freinds of mine didn't go away right away, and they seemed surprised that I am. I don't have a reason to wait, we actually prefer to go now so we can then look for new jobs without worrying about vacation time, but some people think that the way they did it was the better way.

To me, it woud feel like a vacation, not a Honeymoon, if we went later, but if the situation came up, we would totally postpone the HM for a good reason.

I totally agree. You'll regret putting school off

If you dont mind putting it off until december than no one else should! But i think a 2day getaway will be great. Just dont get too stresed!!

AND DONT SKIP THE HM ALL TOGETHER!!

Option #3 seems ideal. Nothing tacky about postponing at all, and as everyone has said, school is too important to put off.

I am currently in school and will be again in the fall. We are getting married in August, having a mini getaway and then taking our honeymoon in December. It's not tacky or weird and pretty common these days for people to postpone the honeymoon.

Can you start school in January 2006? If not then I vote for option 3. There's nothing wrong with going on your HM in December. It might be a nice vacation for you at that time.

I voted for #3. My FI is in Law School now, and we will wait for Dec. break.

I voted for #2. I don't think there's anything wrong with going on your honeymoon in Dec.

However, I think doing a getaway may leave you unprepared for the first day of classes. My FH is in law school PT and before each semester he starts reading the week before for classes. The reading lists come out and professors expect everyone to read and be prepared. If you do go on the getaway, buy your books the week before the wedding and then take them with you.

With all of the wedding preparations, you still want to make sure that you are on point when class starts.

Do NOT put off school!

i agreed with most people here about option 3

take a quick weekend get away.. then in winter, get a week out of NY & Snow into nice hot sunny weather.

school is vital and will enchance your marriage as your not only going to be earning but your education and income will go towards the marrige

Education is so important. A two night get away would be a great way to quickly relax and then start school. Once school is finished then HM, It will be a great thing to look foward to at the end of a stressful time in school.
Good luck.

it is not weird or tacky. We are getting married next month and taking a 4 day mini-moon, taking our 'real honeymoon' next year. Honestly, your career/school is more important.

Dont put law school off - you can take a day or two off before you start classes - but you are going to have a much needed break in Dec - after your first semester -

Just to let you St. John's also have a 4 year P/T program
