Re: Tails, Gloves and Top Coats and Top Hats
My FH wanted to do the tails thing but I don't think our reception is formal enough, I think it depends on what you guests will be wearing, Theresa is your wedding black tie?...or will most guests be be in suits?

Re: Tails, Gloves and Top Coats and Top Hats
I am not a fan of this look (JMO), or of telling guests what to wear to my wedding. I had a formal Saturday evening wedding but black tie is going too far IMO. If you are a President's daughter, yes I can see it, or if you are having foreign officials at the wedding, again it makes sense, but to have your wedding in a 'normal' place it seems a bit too much.Tails looks great on TALL men, and the morning coats look great for afternoon weddings (such as Erica's). But I also think the look be overdone.

Re: Tails, Gloves and Top Coats and Top Hats
We're doing morning suit, but that's only because my fiance is from England and that's the traditional attire worn by the groom and groomsmen. He REFUSED to wear a tux before 3pm and didn't want the 'casual' look of a suit.Word of warning though, the top hats that are rented at most places in NY are really cheap quality, black satin 'magician' looking hats.
And I wasn't happy with the Ralph Lauren morning suit that seems to be the only one available in all of Metro NY. (didn't like the heavy chalk stripes on the pants)
Our guys are wearing the outfit on the right. The groom and groomsmen will be wearing 'frock coats' and the fathers will be in morning jackets:
except with this trouser
And these are the hats. Wool felt:
We ended up getting everything from the UK and paying extra to have everything shipped here 2 weeks before the wedding.

Re: Tails, Gloves and Top Coats and Top Hats
Different for here. :lol:Over there that's the only thing you'll see the guys wearing.
My dad wanted to wear a regular tux, but I didn't want him to stick out. He finally convinced himself that the hat would make him look taller
but my brothers aren't too thrilled about 'hat head'
