Friends of ours are trying to convince us to move to Virginia because it is so much more affordable. So, I took a look at some houses and I couldnt believe it!
OMG, for 265,000??? I am starting to pack my bags right now!!!

Watch out for Virginia though. If you think Long Island is a tough seller's market. Parts of Virginia (like Northern VA)... are hotter than Long Island.
U think the 'overbidding' in Long Island is bad. Some parts of Virginia are actually worse.
Nice area to live though. But remember... cheaper house always equals cheaper salaries. It all works out in the end.

Would you be able to commute to DC from this house or no? Probably not. If you could, you could totally make an awesome salary and live there. That's why DH & I briefly considered MD.

We have family in Tryon NC - the houses are even cheaper than in VA.
We're moving there within 10 yrs I'd say. It's so georgeous down there too - mountain views.

$1763 taxes. Oh my! I would be so scared to move though and not be able to find a great job like I have now. Anyone else want to move but doesn't because of the job situation? Does your friend live in Henriko? How are the schools and the neighborhood?

OK- I'm seriously depressed now.. We were thinking of moving since his co. has an office in VA. ugh- that totally makes me want to pack it up and go! I'd want all my friends to go too though

I have family in Alexandria (10-15 min. out of DC) and the market is hot! Houses are just as expensive as LI, just many of them are newer. I don't know what the taxes are. Nice area though (sometimes too many yuppies for me)!

That IS a nice house, but it is WAY out in VA! I mean we are in the DC area (actually on the MD side though) and the housing market in MD, DC and Northern VA is SKY HIGH!!

beautiful homes, BUT keep in mind--it's still Virgina lol no offense to anyone, i just know for myself and FH after growing up in this area (City and long island) we couldn't deal with such a culture shock.

Everyone else in this country must think we are all crazy for living here!
Maybe someday, we will take our NY equity and move to North Carolina or something.
