My sister is getting married in May and I bought some things off her registry this weekend for her shower and upcoming birthday. When I went online the next day, I noticed these things were still on her registry at Fortunoff.
So, I called, told them what I bought, and they took them off. All the wanted was my first initial and last name.
I didn't really sit right with me that I was able to do that. I thought they would at least ask me for my receipt # or something, because I didn't think it would be that easy.
Is this common practice? can anyone just call and say 'I already bought these things' and they can be taken off?

Wow thanks. I had no idea it was that easy.
But I wonder if it should be that easy. Seems like someone malicious could take advantage of it.

Re: Taking things off registry?
I have been asked for a receipt number before and I have been asked for nothing but a name either.
Just depends on who answers I guess.
As for manipulation that is why they ask for a name -- this way if you call up and say this was removed or that says purchased but I never received it they can tell you who purchased it.

Re: Taking things off registry?
Huh, that's interesting b/c i actually got into a really big argument with a guy over the phone at Kohls after i found my future brother in-law's baby gift cheaper somewhere else....they REFUSED to take it off their registry even though i tried to explain that i was just trying to avoid someone else getting them the same gift...in the end, FH had to tell his brother what we got so that he could take it off his own list...talk about ruining the element of surprise
And of course, someone ended up getting them practically the same thing anyway =(

i just think that if someone malicious'd wanna take advantage of this they would never give the real name anyway.

I'm not really surprised, I'm sure you can just do that.

Re: Taking things off registry?
they really should ask for a reciept number if someone calls to try to do that. but i guess whoever answered the phone has some faith in humanity and figured you werent being malicious...
