I personally think centerpieces are beautiful either way but I understand why some feel the tall ones change the ambiance of a room.
I was curious to know why others chose low vs. tall centerpieces.....
I think we should go with low due to $$ but FH wants the tall ones.

we are also doing super tall CP because we think they will really lend a whole other ambiance to our room. also, when they are tall, they won't take up so much space on the tables and will give everyone sitting down more room. but i have also seen a few low CP that are gorgeous as well. it all comes down to what you like and can afford

I chose high because my room was large with high ceilings... they were only 20 more per table which, to me, was so worth the impact it made in the room.

Re: Tall vs Low Centerpieces
My room is in an older building so the ceilings are shorter so we're doing low centerpieces. My brother is getting married also and his room has huge ceilings so they're framing the dance floor and doing four high centerpieces one on each corner of the dance floor, and then the rest low so the people in the back can see.

I'm doing my own but I decided on rectangular vases that are 16' tall. Not too high and not low. I'm in love with them! Do what you love!! Play around with low and high and see which ones you feel are 'you' =)

we are actually mixing it up. We are going to have half the tables with high submerged CPs and half with low centerpieces. The way the room is set up with the tables the high CPs are going to lie the back tables along the window and the low ones will be on the tables near the dancefloor, that way no one's view will be obstructed.
that sounds so pretty!

We did all high because I just prefer that look. I wanted big, full CPs, I don't really like low ones because I feel they got lost in the room. I feel like when there's tall CPs and the guests walk into the ballroom for the first time, it's just BAM! jmo.
If you have a tall, skinny base and not something very wide, talking/seeing people across the table is not a problem.
