TammyJill or Anna

Original post by Suzanne

How do you get the 'deals' at the supermarket that your talking about.

I am so bad, i dont even use regular coupons, needless to say i have MAJOR shopping expenses everymonth, and now that we are moving into the new house I would love to start doing that.

Sorry if I sound not to bright, but i am really confused..

Anna and Tammy, whenever I see your 'saving/bargain' posts you inspire me to follow in your foot steps, but then when I look more closely and see how dedicated you are to your passion of saving, and how hard you work at it, I get lazy all over again!!

Maybe if I get serious about it I can be a SAHM one day...

Re: TammyJill or Anna

Jenn, its REALLY not that time consuming at all!

I just flip through the papers, see whats on sale, see if its worth a trip to the store, and just go through for 'stock up items'.
Then of course I pick up our wants and needs while im there
and I make sure to always have some junk on hand in the house. I HATE having junk food in the house, but John likes his Hersheys or Drakes, or Keeblers, or ... and I always have from sales or coupons. Otherwise he'd run in and pay triple price based on his cravings, (hey, wait, who's the preggo one here, me or him? )
he's the ULTIMATE impulse shopper, overpaying or not. We are soo opposite, but he gets a kick out of my wheels and deals and he tries to follow in my footstep.. I said TRIES (He's good sometimes, I'll give him that)

Jenn- I take it seriously but thanks to Law school , ill never be a SAHM for long! a few months if I am lucky

Anna- let me know if they price match, I never thought of that! I always see coupons in the saturday early edition and the sunday paper
but if you get home delivery the saturday paper wont have coupons b/c they give you saturday not sunday early
sometimes I get smart source coupons in the pennysaver on saturday

They don't accept competitors' circulars. I did ask a long time ago, though. Now that I moved and I go to a different Waldbaums maybe I'll try again.

...depending on the cashier( look for a dummy! LOL)

GIRLS, I've been reading this thread with amusement, remembering my coupon-cutting days and trying to figure out why I stopped. When I read this remark, I had to put my two cents in.

Tammyjill's advice is BY FAR the best suggestion anyone can give you. I can't tell you how much money I saved just this Christmas season because of stupid people behind the register. For example, my daughter's Calphalon pots were supposed to be $399 at BBB and with my 20% coupon I got them for $258. (There was a mismark as well as a computer glitch that they couldn't correct.) They also were giving a $50 gift card and a promo utensil set for as long as supply lasts. A salesgirl handed me a beautiful 7-piece set which they sell for $50 and the cashier had no clue.

Macy's offered two $5.00 off coupons to use anytime before Christmas if you used their credit card. The cashier gave me back the coupons after they were scanned. One of the girls at Michael's did the same after taking off 50%.

Believe me, you need to be aware bec. they can easily make stupid mistakes in their own favor as well, but it's worth it!

Christine and Marcela...do you guys think there's a big difference between the Waldbaums in College Point and the one in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center? I usually shop at the one in CP, having been to the BT one once, finding it to be fairly sucky compared to the other one. Do you think they offer the same variety of things or does one carry more than the other? I expect that the prices in the BT store are slightly higher...have either of you found that to be true?

A tip from me - we drink a ton of Diet Coke. FH prefers cans, so whenever they're on sale, I buy them. We fill a garbage bag (and I do mean FILL) with cans and bottles and every couple of weeks, when I am going to the store, I take the bag with me and recycle them and get the $0.05 deposit back. Yesterday I wound up taking almost $7.00 off of my total bill just for the bottle deposits. So if you drink a lot of soda, make sure you get the deposit back. It's lost money otherwise, and even though you're technically breaking even when you return them, you still feel like you're coming out ahead!

Re: TammyJill or Anna

Yet again Anna, you have me LMAO with your coupons!! Joe calls me the Coupon Queen, but honey, I have nothing compared to you!!!! And I'm still waiting for those darn $1 coupons to be doubled!!!! Nobody in Queens (at least where I shop) doubles them!!!

I shop at Waldbaum's (in College Point -- Christine is right, they do double coupons, but not the $1 ones) and at Stop & Shop in Maspeth -- WHICH I HATE!!!! They double the coupons, but not the $1 ones.

Do I have to do my shopping out in Suffolk?

I love getting all the flyers and looking through them -- Joe laughs at me!! I even got him looking at them now! And I get very upset when they don't deliver them on Friday!!!

Jann: I've only been to the CP only once. So I really can't tell you if it's better than the BT one. Sorry. Where I live I have 3 Walbaums fairly close to me (the one on the side of the LIE (by 711 and Duane Reade), the one on Francis Lewis Blvd and 48th Ave and the one on Francis Lewis Blvd on 35 Ave-by Raindew). I found that the BT one is MUCH better than all those 3 combined

I agree with Marcela! I don't particularly care for the Waldbaum's on 35th Ave -- it kind of skeeves me! I like the one in CP and the one in BT -- I've never been to the other two though!

LOL!!! It skeeves me too

Re: TammyJill or Anna

The one by the Raindew skeeves me out as well. I checked it out once...and ran the other way. There's also another one on 150th Street I think that I don't like either. Maybe I'll give the BT one another shot, but I hate that parking lot. I guess I can park in the back behind the Chase to avoid most of the traffic.

Thanks, ladies!

I agree, parking is a nightmare there.
