so im going tannin for the first time ever this weekend. im pretty white, so i have no idea how long or what to use. do i need tanning lotion or what?? also, looking for a good place in Massapequa... any words of wisdom??

Usually they take one look at you and know what your skin can handle, plus you usually have to take a little survey about your reaction to the sun. Or at least that's what they do when I go....which isn't often.

okay.. do you usually tan? or do you burn? I suggest you do an Orbit, or perhaps a stand-up.. you need to get a base.. You may look like you didn't get anything the first day, but it'll show the next time you tan.. Also, the key to tanning and conditioning your skin is to not wait too long in between sessions..
Do NOT use lotions your first time.. they have all sorts of lotions and most of them work as magnifying lenses and will roast your skin!
All I do suggest is that after you shower you keep your skin moisturized, to prevent any peeling..
Let me think about any places in Massapequa.. Im sure there's some on Merrick Road..

thank you sooo much :) i know i want to tan before my wedding next may, so i figure i would try it out a year early and see how my skin acts towards it. How long should I wait between sessions??

I tanned before our wedding, and was very happy that I did.
I'm in Queens and went to Beach Bum Tanning...not sure if they are on LI.
I just told the guy that I wanted a little color, nothing radical. I'm really, really pale to begin with and didn't want to be whiter than my wedding gown!
He recommended a tanning bed and a time limit-I think I started at 15 minutes. I went two or three times a week for a month before the wedding.
I used lotion, but I have a feeling it was a money making ploy by the tanning place. They said I should use it, so I did. I remember it being pretty expensive.
Just do like Marcella said, a little at a time. You won't see color at first, but it will gradually show.

Hi.. this is sooooo bad, but I used to go like every day! lol I'm going to look like Magda from there's something about Mary,. lol j/k Go every couple of days.... you want to be able to turn your skin you know? if you give it too much time in between, you will be back to square 1.. =(
I just started back, but not as much as I used to.. I don't want to look like an eggplant on my wedding day lol I used to go all year round, but this year I let me skin rest.. remember the key is to MOISTURIZE!! I say that after the first week, you can use the lotions (chocolate and bronzing ones, stay away from the reds and tingling ones!)
I use banana boat aloe vera lotion.. it's FABULOUS!! I use it all the time..

I prefer a stand up. You aren't laying in your sweat, cause when you get up to a half hour, it gets hot...... Oh and IMO the stand up gives you a better over all tan......
