Tastings

At what point do you ask to taste a food sample or do you get them? I want to taste the food before signing, but do you ask the first time you visit the place?
I know some places won't do it at all.

TIA

Re: Tastings

You can ask what there process is. My wedding is at a resturant and most of the food is on their regular menu so I plan on going with my family and my FH family. We are having our tasting 3 mths beforehand.

I looked at a few places before signing. none offered it. I looked at: The woodlands, Fox Hollow, The Swan Club

I looked at WCC and then when I knew I was going to book, I asked to do a tasting just to be sure I wanted to go with them and it was no problem.

Re: Tastings

This is SUCH a sore spot for me! I have been to quite a few places that will not allow me to taste before I sign. IMO, that is very poor business practice. How do these places expect you to spend thousands of dollars to have a party and for you to not know how the food tastes beforehand? It makes absolutely no sense! I really don't care if they have a good reputation...are known for good food...yadda, yadda....because every single place I have been to says that.
I just don't understand. I can go to the ice cream shop and buy a $2 ice cream and they'll let me taste a sample beforehand.
If a hall says it's not cost efficient, then that makes me concerned that they are cutting corners and the quality of what they offer is questionable. If they charge $125 a plate, it doesn't mean they are giving me a tasting that costs $125 worth of food. Anyplace should be able to give a tasting sample if you come by on a night when an event is being held. For my e-party, I did not sign with anyplace that would not let me taste before signing. Thank goodness I did that because I was so close to signing one place until I tasted their food. LAter that night I ended up signing with another place that they gave me a sample. I booked them on the spot.
Sorry for the rant, but this really upsets me. Basically, I think a hall should let you taste BEFORE you sign and when you are at a point that you are narrowing down your choices. I understand that they don't want people comimg by and taking advantage of a free meal. I just feel like I'm a dog begging for scraps when I have to go back and forth asking for a sampling plate before giving them a check for $5000. Whew! I think I'm done now!

Totally agree with you! Its sooo much money and you want to makle sure its good. You do wonder if they're hiding something or wahtever if they say no. And it is good biz practice. I feel the same way (although this is another issue) about returning phone calls). Even if there's a place I'm sorta interseted in if I don't get my phone call returned I'm like - forget it - its courtesy and good biz.

Re: Tastings

i asked the first time i met with NRC, i told them that i wouldn't book unless i could taste the food, they let me book and put in my contract that it was subject to food tasting and deposit was refundable if we weren't happy with the food.
