Tax question

Anyone know how long it takes to receive you tax refund in the mail? I e-filed Feb 25th and the system says they still have no info. on my return. Also I read in the paper that the rebate checks will start to go out in May, Does anyone know if there is a system to this or if it's just pot luck on when you get it back?
TIA

Re: Tax question

I dunno how long it takes mailed tax refunds. I let them deposit into my account and it was in my account this week. But I don't think it will take as long as May.... so hopefully soon.

Re: Tax question

You should see it come up this week...if not, then something might be wrong. Call whoever e-filed for you at that point. Once it's received by the IRS and if there's nothing wrong with your return, you should have your refund in like 2-3 weeks time.

As far as the rebate checks, as long as your '07 return is filed, you'll get the check send automatically in May.

So all the rebate checks are getting mailed in May?
I called the tax guy we use and he said it should already be in the system so you can pull it up on irs.gov but it's not so he said he will call his main office and get back to us.

i've found that it takes about 8 weeks to get your refund.

the rebates that the government is giving out is different. they have NOT released a schedule yet for when you can expect it. here are some facts about the rebate that the IRS has released to dispel the many myths that are circulating the internet.....

Myth: Payments won’t be mailed until July or later, which doesn’t help when you need your money now.

Fact: Payments will begin going out starting in early May and will continue through the summer.
The IRS has yet to release the 2008 stimulus payment direct deposit and mail-out schedule. The fastest way to get your payment is to electronically file your taxes and have the money directly deposited into your bank account.

Myth: Everyone is eligible for a stimulus payment.

Fact: Lots of people aren’t going to get it. People who have less than $3,000 in qualifying income who wouldn’t otherwise file a return, “nonresident aliens,” people who don’t have a valid Social Security number, those who can be claimed as dependents on someone else’s return, and anyone who files a Form 1040NR, Form 1040PR or Form 1040SS are not eligible. Also, anyone with an income above the level at which the stimulus payment gradually reduces until it is phased out will not get a stimulus payment. Phase-out income levels begin at $75,000 for a single head of household or $150,000 for married filing jointly.

I got mine so quick this year, less than 2 weeks!

Re: Tax question

Thanks! My check cant be direct deposited because there is a childsupport issue so the money has to be removed first and then they mail it. It's a crazy situation not worth getting into but I just thought that it would be listed already on the irs website and it's not and I really need my return for the wedding. I guess it is what it is and I'll get it when it gets here. Thanks anyhow.

I did my taxes the first week of Feb. Three weeks later the $ was deposited into my account.

Re: Tax question

The stimulus rebate is based upon the 2006 tax filing, not the 2007 filing.
Only seniors who normally don't file taxes because of their income levels will have to file taxes for 2007 to be eligible for the stimulus rebate.
A letter is being mailed out by the IRS detailing all the info, how the payments will go out and when.

From what I understand, they start sending them out in May, but they are sending them alphabetically by last name....

Thank you so much. According to that schedule my check should be mailed on 3/14 but because of the childsupport issue it usually gets hung up for another 3weeks so I guess I can expect to get it sometime in April.

Re: Tax question

if you e-file you get it faster, and if you have it direct-deposited you have it faster. I received mine back in Feb, but we filed early and did e-file + direct deposit.

Re: Tax question

DH has now called the guy twice about this and he still hasnt gotten back to us. I did my taxes on Feb. 22 so they should atleast be coming up on the irs website and they arent it keeps telling me that I must have made a mistake because they have no record of my taxes. Last year we e-filed and asked for direct deposit and it didnt come because he neglected to tell us that our return was over the amount allowed for direct deposit so we had to wait for the corrections to be made and have it mailed and we still got it within 4wks. and it was listed within a week on irs.gov. Im never using this guy again I dont care what DH says. Every year my return gets smaller and my fee gets bigger!

I already received my tax return and I emailed in the return around February 20th. I did not receive that extra check that is supposed to be given out to everyone for the tax cuts.
