taxes!!!

We just found out our taxes went up! I gues we expected this, but I was trying not to think about it. Now we are in the 10,000 range! argh! I hope this whole prison buiding thing never happens. They say our taxes will rise dramatically!

The taxes are out of control.

What I don't understand is why are the taxes in Nisseqogue so much cheaper for homes that are $$$ and on bigger pieces of property?

My neighbor is paying around $36,000 a year in property taxes (it's a big house), but if it was in Nisseqogue, I'm sure it would only be like 20's, and probably bigger property.

OK, enough of my ranting...but I feel your pain.

We did some renovations to the house we bought bc it was in bad shape and the taxes doubled!! I tried to fight it at the village but the assessor wouldn't change.

The taxes on LI are incredible!!!! Not only do you have huge mortgage payments, but you have to pay a large sum each month for taxes

Welcome to the 10K club.

Like Nisseguogue, the taxes are also lower in towns out east - Remsemberg, Quogue, etc. That's because there's not many children living in these 'pricey' areas, thus the lower need for schools.

Nissequogue is not that far east as Quogue...Port Jeff is further east than Nissequogue (near Stony brook and Smithtown).

Some people say it's political...lots of politicians in Nisseqogue. I don't know.

Prison??? There's another prison planned for Long Island???

But I'm confused .. taxes would go up dramatically if a prison was built????

Yes, it's been on the news quite a bit. They estimate that each prison cell will cost upwards of $300K each...I guess somebody has to foot the bill.

Sorry for you =( Taxes are inSANE!!! My parents live in Amityville and they pay $20k+ and they have the worst schools ever, so on top my sister has to go to private school. Then you have 5 million dollar houses on the north shore and they are paying the same thing. Makes no sense!!!!

My Mom lives in Virginia on acres of land in a huge home custom built...her taxes are $1100 a year.

It's sick how expensive LI is! DH and I have been talking more and more about selling our house and moving out of state. If most of our family wasn't here we would have been gone already I think.

Maybe we should all move down south. We could have mansions for what we pay here. It's sick!

Crazy, isn't it? DH and I have begun house hunting here in Maine. One house we have our eyes on costs only $900 annually in taxes.
I could not imagine paying that much or more PER MONTH!
