tea lights instead of votives? around center pieces
what do you think about just using tea lights in no holder around the centerpieces instead of votives? do you think it would cause problems (be too hot, burn someone, burn out too soon). I was thinking maybe it would look softer than votives b/c they are smaller...maybe

I think you need a holder. I think the package will tell you that. There are tea light holders though, if you want a more subtle look.
I did tea lights in a votive holder, so the space above the wick would glow.
A mix of tea lights in te light holder & in votive holders might look nice too, because of the varrying heights.

I think it's a little dangerous with no holder....I would check to see if it's okay with your hall...I thought I heard something about electric votive candles, like a light bulb...I don't know if it looks cheesy or not....maybe you could go to a yankee candle store and ask the people that work there for suggestions on softer burning candles....

Also, frosted holders will give you a softer look.

The last time I was at Ikea, they had a variety of tea light holders and tea lights for pretty cheap (can't remember the price)... I'd just be worried they would burn out too quickly.

John from Flower Michele warned that tea lights are for limited number of hours and told me to only get tea lights for cocktail hour as opposed to reception. He said to get the 4-6 hour burn time ones.
