its crazy bc my friend's family has lived in williamsburg, brooklyn for about 30 years and you can imagine what they paid back then...her family owns a construction company so they made it into a 3 floor home. I remember going years ago to pick her up or drop her off and its different than it is now, it wasn't bad but definitely not as built up, you just had alot of factories which are mostly lofts now and not all the restaurants and bars you have now. But now its funny bc she tells me that she CONSTANTLY has people knocking on her door asking if her family wants to sell her house and they offer insane amounts of money, her mom sometimes is like 'maybe we should take it' but her dad won't lol, but still funny that theres no for sale sign but ppl just constantly are knocking on their door...her grandmother also has a house on that block, so maybe they should move her in and sell that. But she tells me what they offer and its crazy
I believe it! I have a friend that lives in BedStuy and I had been visiting him since we were in H.S. It used to be run down but now there are condos going up and the area is so much more diverse. He lives in a brownstone and is asked to sell all the time but he knows what it is worth ($$$)
I used to go to williamsburg all the time and know what you mean about the factories b/c I had my prom dress made by a woman out there. I left for VA right after that year so imagine my shock when I came back last year and saw how it progressed.

oh one thing that annoys me, just because someone is from eastern europe that does not mean they are a communist. Sometimes people call me that as a joke, but depending on who says it or how its said it bothers me...People were FORCED to live in a country that was communist and its NOT what they wanted, maybe just maybe thats why eastern europe rebelled and overthrew the government.
TOTALLY AGREE.
I hate when people call me a Communist because I am Cuban.
Meanwhile, my family fled communism!

i LOVE those brownstones in brooklyn, many times i mention it to FH but we decide with queens bc its what we're used to lol but i wouldn't mind.
Yeah you wouldn't see people out, it was so quiet, and she lives right where all the bars and restaurants are, for example she only lives very few blocks away from Sea, to see all that there now is so shocking well now ive gotten used to it but definitely a big change.

Just because you're from queens does not mean you're ghetto. I know somebody who always makes comments like OH NO i dont go into queens, and once about if she had to take the train it would have to be close by to where she was going and not walk too much, yes bc you will get robbed or shot once you step foot into queens...Its not all urban, we do have residential areas and is very suburban like.
its so funny you brought that up..when my lil sister first spoke to FH and learned he was from queens she asked him 'Do you live in the ghetto' followed by 'have you ever been shot?' FH was so amused.

i think people who lived in communist countries hate it more than somebody who didn't because they had to live in it.

Thought it might be interesting to share about Amish weddings. The weddings are held in the home of the Bride. The couple wear Amish attire, but the Bride wears a white apron over her dress. The ceremony is conducted by several Amish ministers, who preach. The couple stand up front briefly to say their vows. There are hymns sung in German, as well as prayers, during which everyone kneels. At the reception, the couple and their closest friends sit at a special table. Those guests who have given gifts of fancy dishes, have the dishes filled with goodies, which are passed around the wedding table, after the main meal. The meal is huge. The Amish women help with the prep and serving of the meal, which usually consists of turkey mixed with stuffing, and all the trimmings. There are usually different cakes for dessert. I don't remember if there's one special cake. I could go on and on about their wedding traditions, but this gives a small view. Mary MOB

Not all black people are late...im very punctual. (I know all types of people that are late)
and
The Bonx is not all bad. Just like L.I. we have our good and our bad parts. I actually from a very nice area. I was buying life insurance the other day and insurance agent didnt want to come to my house because when I told him Im in the Bronx he said 'is it the projects????' Well first of all why the hell would I be buying a million dollars of life insurance if I lived in the proects...I think I would need to have other more important bills to worry about. And secondly my parents Coop is worth just as much as some peoples homes on L.I.
I know!!! When I used to visit family in small towns, my cousin's friends would find out I was from the BX and ask if I had a gun. So silly. People have a very warped sense of what the bronx is like. When they hear Bronx, they think South Bronx.

Puerto Ricans are not all loud, ghetto or from the Bronx.
