I have a B.S. in Education (communication sciences and disorders). Is there anything I can do in the education field at all (I am going for my Masters in speech, I can not practice that w/ out the masters)? Teaching assistant? Anything?

Re: Teacher or Educators...advice please
You cannot take a speech position in a school? I can't remember if you need your masters in speech to get certified and work in a district. I will ask my mother, she is a speech pathologist. Whatever the case is, you need to be certified, that is going to make more of a difference right now than your masters. Once you are certified, you can work on your masters.

The city may hire you as a teaching assistant but they have exams for certification for that now. I would call the board of ed to find out.

Actually, if you send your transcripts to BOCES, they will tell you what you need to do.

Re: Teacher or Educators...advice please
hi! i'm a speech therapist, too! i live in NJ so it might be different, but i know here you can work at a school with just a bachelors in speech- you just have to have your masters by 2009 i think it is.... i would look into it! i know... going for the masters in speech is TOUGH with all the practicums you have to do... doesnt leave much time to work to make money....but i promise it really does go fast... and its worth it!! good luck

Re: Teacher or Educators...advice please
I am really looking forward to grad school in the fall. The issue is that I need to be making money over the summer and while I am in school and it is clear that I am not going to be having my present job too much longer. I have been looking around and can not seem to find anything. I am trying to find something that I won't be 'chained to my desk' like I am in my current job...hence the back problems. In NY you must have a masters to practice speech. I just need a job while I am going through the process.
