Teachers I have so many questions:

Good Morning!

I have a few questions:

1. Is a Masters neccersary to teach?
2. Can you teach w/ any BA if a Master's isn't needed?

Thanks,

Re: Teachers I have so many questions:

You can teach with a Bachelor's, as long as you took Education as a major or minor. If you want to teach HS, you have to have a Bachelor's in a content area (example: English, Math etc...) and with a minor of Education. Once that is done, you have to pass all 3 NY State exams (LAST, ATS-W and CST). There are also workshops you have to go to ( I think there were 4 of them). You can teach for up to five years with this degree and other requirements. You need a Master's by your sixth year.

If it is in a public school and you have a BA and are certified to teach then you can. But you need to get your MA in order to keep teaching and keep your certification.

Does anyone know what school districts in Nassau you can sub in without your certification? I'm going back to school this fall for my master's in ed and want to get out of my current job in a year or so.

Thanks, after thinking about it for years, and not really knowing what I want to be when I grow up, I finally realized it (altho when my family was encouraging me to go in to this area 7 years ago I disagreed )

I've been out of school for a few years (unless you count cont. ed classes @ Post).

I did not take one education class Does anyone how how many /what credits are needed to take the above mentioned test?

My BA & MA are both in Communications. I didn't have my epiphany until this year either. If you can afford it, check into school districts that allow you to sub w/o the certification. You can attend school during this and finish faster. At this moment I don't have that option so have to put that off for a year or so at least.

Hi if you want to get a masters in eduation, you need about 36 credits, maybe 40 depending on your masters program. you can go to grad school without taking an undergrad. course in education

While we're on the topic. Is it true you can teach with any masters degree? Not just one in education? My mom told me this was true but I think she was drunk

It is true ONLY if your Undergrad degree is Education based.

You'd have to take a whole Education program through and get a Master's in Early Childhood Education.

Well, for example, I minored in education but am getting my masters in forensic psychology (which might apply to most public high schools anyway), does this mean I can teach without getting a masters in education?
