Just wondering if any teachers out there are inviting their students, particularly if they are havign a FULL Mass. I thought it would be cute to have them there, but at the same time, I am having a Mass that will run at least an hour.... so I am thinking maybe I shouldnt' extend an invite. What do you think?

Re: Teachers iniviting students
absolutely not.
i've been to too many weddings lately where the students are rude, loud, improperly dressed and just outright awful. i didn't invite my students and although i loved them all, i'm glad i didn't because it's my private life.

I don't think I would do it. 5th graders are still very young and being special ed, some of them may be even more immature. You don't want to be held liable for them. Remember, you are not there to supervise. Do you think their parents would stay or just drop them off? I would definitely worry about that. Maybe to do something special... you could stop by somewhere so that they could see you. Do pictures in a public place near that school maybe?

I teach 4th grade and im debating the issue. Im not having a full mass though! If i was i prob. wouldnt invite them cause i dont think they would be able to sit through the whole thing. Most probably wont show up and those that do will prob. be with their parents. I cant imagine parents dropping them and leaving. JMO, HTH

I teach Kindergarten and was planning on inviting my class, because I know they'll be coming with their parents. If you're worried that they might get antsy but you really want them there, you could specify something about 'bringing your grownup' to the wedding...?

I teach 5th grade special ed too. I am thinking of telling the parents at the end of the year that I would love for my students to meet me at the park where I am taking pic after the church. It ends up that the park is in the town where I teach and right down the street from our school.

Re: Teachers iniviting students
I had three of my kindergarten special education students come to my ceremony and they were great! They were so in awe to see me and they were very well behaved. I took some really cute pictures with them afterward. I'm really glad that they came.

Re: Teachers iniviting students
I teach High school special ed and in my opinion, students shouldn't be at a ceremony for their teacher. Forget about immaturity and things like that but I think it crosses the line b/t professionalism and personal. But thats only my opinion. Some people have others.

Re: Teachers iniviting students
Personally, I would love it! I'm a music teacher- but I have 400+ students because I teach grades 1- 5. The option of inviting them is out anyway- I teach in NJ, and my wedding is on LI I'm so sad because I would have loved for some of them to sing at my wedding. Crazy huh? 1-5 graders?!?! I'd probably choose only 5th graders anyway. And 4th- my 4ths are my favorite!!! I'm kinda thinking I might scope out which kids visit LI alot (these kids are pretty darn well off and I've heard several have summer homes out east) and invite them haha!
A couple from my school just got married- they were both 4th grade teachers, and they invited their classes and it was one of their most favorite parts of their wedding. The photographer took a pic of them with all the students and other faculty that came from the school.
Do what makes you comfortable!! Judge your decision on your relationship with them and their maturity level and see how you feel.

I love this idea!!! I can't wait to see pics, if it works out!
It's so easy to be attached to these kids huh? It's totally natural for us to want them there! And no one is more excited than they are...they ask all the time when I'm getting married, what my name will be. Soooo cute!

Re: Teachers iniviting students
I teach high school, and many of the kids have expressed a desire to come to my wedding- but I am definitely NOT having them there. It's different with high school kids IMO.

Re: Teachers iniviting students
I teach high school and I will absolutely, positively NOT invite my students. They already try to delve into my personal business on a regular basis and I am not feeling paying $80 per plate for some of my students that I will never see again after they graduate. But don't get me wrong, I love teaching and I love working with students, but with high school kids you really have to draw the line. It is alot different from elementary school.

I was just about to say something about this....
at my sister's wedding a ton of her husband's students came- I don't really know how he felt about it, but it was a little weird for me since a lot of his students I knew (I used to go to that school)
