I was talking with another teacher today about a teacher who is on leave. She has had two children and has been out of work for 3 or 4 years to raise them. She had tenure when she was working. She was told she must sub three days each year -in order to keep her cert. I had never heard of this before. Is this true?
I guess it depends if she has her permanant certificate?
or is she talking about her seniority? I think its average to get 2 years leave without losing seniority or your position....for each kid...

if she has perm. cert. then she can leave for as long as she wants. Once you have that it is it. Maybe it is something the school is doing. Im surprised they let her back. Most schools allow you to leave for up tp 2 years.

Re: teachers please read
As far as I know, once you take a certain # of years(in my dist it is 4) you must decide to come back or lose your tenure status. Certification has nothing to do with it.
