Teachers... We Might Lose Our Jobs Too...

Sooooooooo I recently heard, some NYC teachers will also be losing their jobs next year.... Im getting nervous too bc they are going by seniority

I am a teacher on Long Island and we had a mtg last friday saying that 190 letters are going out this week to teachers that might lose their jobs. It is insane!!

i was already told i would be the first one out... but i was also told not to worry about it and that it prob wont happen.. so who knows

Apparently it doesnt matter... they are starting with people 3 yrs and less and Im just around that so if Im not the 1st to go... I will be the next one with my foot out the door. If its a citywide tax cut and the city cant afford to have us there... our contract cant protect us.

Ladies, we are in for an uncertain future right now..... ughhhhhh and with our weddings coming up- SO STRESSFUL!!

It doesn't matter if you are tenured...they will get rid of people from the bottom up...so if you are the last one hired in your area, you are the first to go....that is me...I am the last reading teacher hired so I would be the first to go....CRAZY!!!!

I heard that if it gets really bad other teachers who are excessed from different schools can come and take your job if they have more seniority than you. Crazy!

they just bought a $6000 dog to chase geese off the football field

Isn't that amazing...my school (LI) is huge on sports and the talk about cutting sports teams is like unheard of....I am sorry but I understand the importance of kids playing sports but really...when times are hard they should be cutting the extras and keeping the basics like art, music, etc.

YEPPPPPPPPP I just heard about this!!! It's called 'bumping' .... its insane!!! I just cant believe this!!!!!! Fh said I need to stop worrying bc its not going to do us any good... but how can I not????? What am I going to get a pink slip and then get married right after? UGHHHHHH!!!! Im in shock to be honest.....

I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray for all the teachers too...my own job is uncertain, so I know how it feels...it's really scary out there.

What do you teach? I heard ELA and Math are pretty safe. I'm an ELA teacher and I've been teaching for four years but I'm super nervous. I love my job, I love my school. I don't know what I would do!
