Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!
you can be a 'good' parent at a young age but you cant necessarily be an 'educated' parent and education is the only cure for poverty

i think people are afraid to terminate pregnancies because of our society and i think that a lot of girls are afraid to tell their parents that they are pregnant so they hide it. imagine being a teenager and pregnant and afraid to tell your family. i can see how babies end up in dumpsters. its really sad

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!
My sister who was 2nd in her class (meaning seconf highest GPA) & had a baby in her junior year of HS @ the age of 16. This was a BIG shock because she was always looked at as the perfect child. After the baby she dropped down to 3rd in her class. She never let the baby stop her from doing what she had to do. With family support, she still graduted HS on time & she gradutedwith the 3rd highest gpa, while working a PT during the school year. She got married as soon as she turned18 & her DH is in the Air Force & they moved to NJ to live on the AF base. She went to college right after HS & took a semester off from school when she had her second baby at the age of 20. Having this second baby only delay her graduating college by 1 year. They then moved to florida & they recently moved back to NY. She is now a Financial analyst working for Motorola @ the age of 26. Her kids are now 10 & 6 & they are VERY well behaved. She is VERY involved with there lives. She goes on all of their school trips & goes to all of their games in whatever sport they are doing.
My sister is my inspiration, because she did NOT let her teenage pregnancy be an excuse for her to drop out of school & live on welfare. She took it as a resonsiblity & grew up very fast. Even though she looks younger than 26, Many people don't believe she 26 simply because she is VERY mature for her age.

That is so sad, because anyone can bring a baby newborn, 1-3 days old to any hospital or safe haven, and drop the baby off no questions asked...people need to be educated on these issues, and if they are that scared, its going to be scarier going to jail when they could of prevented it

Yeah they can go to a church or there are clinics etc but not in a dumpster or bathroom. I remember a story a girl gave birth in a toilet on her prom night and walked away like nothing happened

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!
well lets see I have a lot of thoughts on this one.
First off, I agree with others, age doesn't mean you'll be a bad parent, whether 16 or 35. I've seen bad parents on both side of the spectrum. Personally I don't think 16 year olds should be having kids. granted there are some mature ones, who pull through...I've known a few, graduated college and all. So good for them:). But the problem is there aren't many mature ones.
Also, I'm surprised how high teenage pregnancy is now adays. Things are much more open now about sex than ever before. There's classes, planned parenthood, places where kids can get advice, support etc. more than ever before. So when I hear oh it was an accidednt, I doubt that cause elementary kids know what s ex is now adays. Things are far more advanced. It's plastered all over.
Agreed, it's not always the parent's fault, they can only do so much and protect their children to a certain degree. But I do think parents have the obligation to teach their kids about consequences, responsibility and that not everything in life will be handed on a silver platter

when i was in high school pregnancy was crazyyyyyyy my high school was 70% girls, and there were girls starting HS with babies, a few girls in my classes had 2 babies by 17, it was realyl crazy, they all thought it was cute. i cant imagine how it is now in HS but im assuming not any better. its sad when teens get preg because they think its really cute to walk around with a baby and they love the attention they get because theyre preg and had a baby

this is such an amazing story and congrats to your sister that she was able to take her responsibilities seriously and grow from them and have a wonderful family in the end and have 2 beautiful well mannered children!!!! she should definitely go give inspirational speeches to young teenagers who are pregnant or mothers etc her story could help them!!
i do have to say though...did she ever feel sad about having to grow up so quickly though?? like i know she would not regret having her children but did she regret her decision in having sex so young because she had to grow up so fast because of having a baby at 16??

Yes they can do soo much to protect themselves. My friend is a hs teacher and tells me she always has girls in her class pregnant. I guess education doesnt mean anything anymore. I dont see myself getting preg at 30 let alone a girl at 14, 15, 16

parents can always tell them use protetion, a baby isnt easy, they expensive etc etc.....but its up to the kids out there having sex to use protection when it comes down to having sex.....and some parents think their kids arent havin sex when they really are, shoot some do it at school unfortunately, or cut class to do it or sneak out

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!
to think back now at how I was when I was a teen....THANK THE LORD I didnt have kids. I wouldnt have been able to do and expereince the things I've done in the past 10 years., get an education., work experience., leisure to experience my youth. If I didnt have these things I wouldnt be the person I am today. And unfortunaltey those young teens are still in the same mindset as they were then. They didnt grow as a person on their own.
And thats exactly wahat I 'want' for my children. I want them to have a good education (which surpasses college these days) I want them to expericen their youth, dating, travel, grow into the person they are to be.
Now Some teens do step up big time and take the responsiblity of their children. They juggle a job, a career even, school , and their children and they do what they have to do to still have their youth and take care of their children I give them alot of respect.

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!
Dani 731...I'm very happy for your sister. I think she is a perect example of how to turn a difficult situation around and be an example to her children and other young girls. Her kids must be very proud of their mommy. Before it was frowned upon when young girls got pregnant. He life is over they would say. It still is now, but I feel like society is a little more accepting of it. Your sister is one of the few who chose for her life not to be over and continue with her dreams
