Touchy subject..
While I wasnt a teen when I had my daughter, I am still looked at as too young.. I was pregnant at 20...
I dont see anything wrong with it.. And it makes MY blood boil when people have negative thing to say about it...
im very controversial on this subject.. i dont believe in abortion at all... My opinions but I dont want to get into it cos it only causes drama.
My mother had my older brother at 16.. Thank God she did.. He is my best friend and he turned out AMAZING!
She had me at 18... She was 19 years old with 2 kids...
I dont understand the comment of 'WE have to pay for them'... What does that mean?
I had my child young, NO one paid for her but ME and FH... NO ONE! All of my friends have children.. We are all young... We are all great parents, our children do NOT go without and we ALL pay for OUR children on our own..
I dont think it ruins lives to have children young.. I think its better to have children young, personally.
Like I said touchy subject for me...

my mom was 20 years old when she had so i dont think age makes you a good or bad parent...please don't feel offended by what people say. As i said in my other post, its not directed at EVERYBODY who had a child as a teenager and many of us do know of individual cases where the teenage mom does a great job raising her child and if you did the same then don't take offense, you know the mother you are and how you are raising your daughter so dont let it bring you down at the same time that doesn't mean that alot of other teenage moms should be getting pregnant.

No I completely understand... I didnt read all the posts.. Just a couple... So Im just giving my opinion on the subject... Im not saying every teenage girl should get pregnant.. I dont think they should... And Im not saying its easy.. Its VERY hard... I think alot of teenage girls have the wrong ideas in their head when they intentionally get pregnant...
I just hate the fact that ALL young mothers get grouped into the same sterotype...
I had a bad day LOL... Im a little biitchy right now.. So dont mind me...

its ok, i completely understand and i think we would've all reacted the same...just don't want you to think we view you as a bad mother or anything like that.

No def not.... Its just hard to be a young mother... And deal with the criticism sometimes... Me and FH have gone out to eat with our daughter and we are obviously young, and we have gotten dirty looks and remarks whispered about us by older people.. My grandfather, whom I love sooo much, has even made a remark that hurt.. He was like 'Oh great, thats all we need is another bastardd child in this family'.. But ive learn to deal with it... People will always talk.. But those people dont really know what its like to be me and how good my daughter has it.. As long as I know, thats all that matters to me.

I think you're also another great example of a woman who took her responsiblities seriously. I think girls who say 'they don't want to pay for them' mean young moms who get assistance. I know it may sound harsh and unfair, but I can see their point.

I also think many who have posted on this thread who had kids young come from a different time. You know what I mean? Times are different now and teenage girls are different now. Yes there are exceptions and yes teen pregnancy has always been a problem, but not to the degree it is now.

And like someone said earlier it's not just pregnancy, but also STD's. I worked for Publc Defenders before and always had cases of these little girls, with kids and like 5 STD's. I mean it's sad. Not to say it happens to all, but D amn what are these girls thinking?

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!

first of all, the success stories are few and far between

the comment about we paying for them refers to programs that schools must put into place to pay for the education of pregnant teens, as well as many schools that have DAYCARE

WE the TAXPAYER DO pay for that

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!

i work in an area where there are MANY 13 and 14 year olds having kids, and they are ALL on public assistance

they dont work, dont even TRY to work
26 yeras old with 10 year olds and pick their kids up from school in pajamas and stinking like weed

and this is ALL over

very well said...we are not going to judge every single teenager that has a child but the fact is a large percentage of teenage moms are not ready and don't do the right thing. The big problem is just how many teenagers are having a children. I think the best would be to wait but yes things do happen and while some teenagers do step up, unfortunately many others don't.

I completely understand what you are saying...
And Ive seen the mother's you are talking about..
I seen you response and took it towards all young mothers..
However I do not think there is a problem with schools having daycare... I think its a wonderful thing, allowing mothers to go to school to get an education and make better for themselves and their children....

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!

find me a 12-17 year old who is independent, lives on their own, has a job, pays rent, pays bills, knows how to cook, keeps their home clean and sanitary, does laundry, etc. etc.

im sorry but in reality there is no way a teenager can properly take care of a child on their own without having some help. a 12-17 year old can't even get a job making enough money to support themself and a child b/c they dont even have a high school diploma!! anyone who is a good teenage mother is getting help from somewhere - which thankgod these girls are getting help from their families but IMO if you need help to take care of your mistake you shouldnt be having one!

Mistake? Who said just because you are a young mother its a mistake?!
My daughter is ANYTHING but a mistake...
My mother as 16 when she gave birth to my brother and she was pregnant with me at 17.... She doesnt have a high school diploma but my parents owned their own house when my mother was 18... They rented an apt before that... hey took care of me and my brother, on their own... My father worked.... Yes they OWNED and paid all their bills....
We turned out great and we NEVER went without ANYTHING!

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!

FYI, the ideal age to concieve for optimal health for the child is actually age 32! For optimal health for the mom its 34! Sometimes older is better!

I think she meant that no 17 year would ever PLAN a pregnancy.

hmmm that is weird since you are most fertil around 23

im not sure if 'mistake' was the right word, however, most teen pregnancies arent planned - therefore they could be seen as an 'accident'

Yea.. Sometimes older is better and sometimes younger is better... Its all in the individual... I personally dont think age matters, as long as your mature and willing to make great sacrifices...

yeah heather isnt that why alot of people say that having a baby as a young teen can be unhealthy because your body is not fully developed and prepared for giving birth that young?

Re: TEENAGE PREGNANCY!!!

Unfortunately with a topic like this, most comments are going to be taken offensively. I dont think anything is being said as a personal attack. Sadly a lot of the time, teenage pregnancy is a mistake, ESPECIALLY, in this day and age. Back in the day, a lot of people were having children young. These days its not as acceptable and most people will not agree that teenage pregnancy is a 'good' thing. People who prove to be positive examples should be praised but unfortunately they are overshadowed by the many many young people who have kids and are not ready for them. Sorry to say.

Accident yes.. But either way I hate the word mistake... To each his own.. But mistake just sounds so cruel to me...

Theres an article in Marie Claire this month that talks about women concieving in their 30's! You gotta read it!

As a side note, I saw this little hanukah decoration in the mall and I thought of you! It was a light blue dredel (sp) and it had silver snowflakes on it and it said Mazel Tov! I thought about buying it, but then I realize that might be odd

You are VERY right!
Its just the way some things are put into a sentence that causes it to be offensive...
Im love a good debate... I just debate more so when its something thats personal to me...
However it suckks over the computer since you cant really see any emotion in types words.... Things get taken out of context..
I appologize for sounds like a biotch... I dont mean to sound rude or attacking either...
