Ok, I'm am 100% convinced that Gianna is teething, but when I took her for her last visit, the dr said no. The poor thing is drooling all over the place and is CONSTANTLY shoving everything and anything (her fist, thumb, fingers, bibs, wrist, my shirt, her toys, my hand -- you name it) in her mouth!!!
And since Sunday she's been going poops 3 times a day!!!!! Now, that might be normal for everyone, but not my bear cub!! She usually goes every other day and turns all shades of red and grunts when she does (it's the funniest and saddest thing to watch ). And it's been kind of -- not to be gross and sorry for TMI -- watery and loose. I asked my friend and she said it's from her teeth probably, which is what I thought because she has no fever, is eating and acting like her normal self.
Yesterday she went 4 times and in the middle of the night, Joe woke me up to tell me 'the baby took a dump and she stinks' -- thanks Buddy, what's the matter with your hands? Are they broken? Then when I got to work, I called up Nanny and she said she went a little bit again!!!!
Anybody else go through this? I'm taking her to the dr tomorrow night to get her ears pierced, so I'll ask him about this pooping problem!!

Re: Teething Question
Sounds like she teething to me, Mia has been teething for at least 6 weeks now, just because the teeth haven't broken through doesn't mean she's not teething.
Mia has and is still doing the same thing as Gianna..her whole fist is in her mouth and her sleeping is horrible!!! Finally I can see the two little white buds that will someday be her teeth if they ever come out. Try putting one of her wash clothes in the freezer (wet it first) and let her suck on that, Mia loves it.

Re: Teething Question
I thought the same thing about Damien(to my horror, remember he is BF ) Because he is drooling everywhere. If I don't keep a bib on him I have to change his clothes a few times a day because his chest is soaking. But they said not yet at the Dr. too.
She may have loose stools because she is swallowing a lot of saliva. That can happen sometimes

Re: Teething Question
Rebecca is going through the SAME thing, and the doctor says she is not teething yet! She drools all over the place, and puts everything, including her entire fist, into her mouth. According to the books, this is normal for this age, and doesn't necessarily mean that she's teething. Rebecca also had diarrhea recently, as you know, but it wasn't from the saliva - she had caught a bug at daycare. Perhaps your Nanny was a carrier of some bug which Gianna caught (hopefully NOT). Either way, if she keeps pooping a lot, and it's wet, you should definitely see the pediatrician, and give her Pedialyte to keep her hydrated. Good luck sweetie!

Re: Teething Question
See that's the thing, she's still sleeping her 10 hours a night and eating and acting normal!! That's why I think it's her teeth. I keep taking her temperature and Nanny (Joe's grandmother) goes to me 'you're going to make her go again'!!!! That's what the dr used to tell me to do in the beginning to get her to poop -- 'stimulate her w/the thermometer'!!!! So maybe the thermometer is making her go!!
Lauren, you're right -- I did read in the book last night that excess saliva can cause loose poops. I think that's it because nobody's been sick that's been watching her (my mother, MIL and grandmother).
But I'm definitely going to mention it tomorrow to the dr.
Thanks my pals!!!

Re: Teething Question
I still say it's the teething, they can teeth MONTHS before and actual tooth comes in. Let's us know what the Doc says and good look with the piercing, she will be just fine, give her extra hugs afterwards.

Re: Teething Question
Deb, when you look inside of Gianna's mouth, can you tell if her gums are reddish and a bit swollen? If so, then that's a sure sign that she's teething. I wouldn't worry, tho...it does sound like usual reactions to teething issues...

Re: Teething Question
Hi Claud! I try to look inside, but she starts gnawing away on my finger and not for nothing, but even though she doesn't have teeth, it hurts!!! The funny thing is my MIL and my mother both said to me when she was about a month old that it looked like she was cutting a tooth because they saw white in her gums, but I didn't see it. I just chalked it up to wishful thinking on their part!
She's gone 4 times today and is a happy mood, so I really believe it's her teeth. Or else it's her body getting used to the rice and it's flushing her out -- which is weird since rice is supposed to bind you!! Or maybe since she hasn't gone on a normal daily basis, her body is getting rid of everything! Or her mother is coming out with total ridiculousness because she's so tired!!!
Seriously, I'll discuss this w/the dr tomorrow. I'm sure she's fine. She does make the cutest face when she's trying to go though!! She scrunches her face and gets all red!! I know, that sounds terrible, but you have to see her!!!! My poor little bear cub!!!
