Tell me Your Review for these Reception Halls - Please
Original post by Nichelmus
I've visited a few reception halls trying to find that one that will make me say 'WOW' when I see it and not get scared once I see the cost per person.
If you been to a wedding or had your wedding and just visited these places, please tell me what you think. A lot of the reviews on here are old.
I am almost up to 10 reception halls visits. After awhile they are starting to look the same
Im looking for a place that has a option of a outside wedding. I want the grounds of the place to look gorgeous. Garden view and maybe a view of the water would be nice. Some of the places I visited that had outside ceremonies you can hear the cars drive by. God forbid if someone beeps their horn during my vow (LOL)
I would also like the cocktail hour to be outside and a inside reception. Of course I want the food to be good.
So some of the places I've been to are
Swan Club , Fox Hollow, North Ritz Club, Chateau La Mer, Harbor Links, Bridgeview Yacht Club, Planting Fields, Jericho Terrace, Thatch Cottage, Timber Point and this weekend I am going to see The Coral House, Crest Hollow Country Club and Westbury Manor. 'whew that is a lot'
If you have suggestions, reviews or advice please let me know. I don't want to spend no more than 125 per person. If I can get it less than 100 would be great for a Saturday wedding.
I want to get married in 2013 July or August and I know dates are filling up. Please help me

I had a horrible experience with Chateau La Mer...I ended up cancelling and rebooking my wedding elsewhere. They are super shady.

swan club is beautiful outdoors a lil outdated with the rooms but still a beautiful choice. fox hollow i am biased is my fav great food great service timeless and romantic. westbury manor was the most accomodating when we went to go see it. the only reason i didnt choose it was because of the time for the wedding they gave me. chateau la mer is beautiful i love the yacht and outdoor part. i didnt choose it because i didnt like the indoor ceremony room but great hall

Just went to an event sat at westbury manor, the grounds are beautiful. food was just 'okay' and cake they provided was Horrible!! it was soooo dry. I liked Chateu la Mer food much better and their large room is beautiful yet set up is a little awkward.

We're booked at the Chateau La Mer, and I couldn't be happier. Everyone I tell that I'm having it there have nothing but great things to say about it so I'm really excited and trust it's going to be great! Nick was awesome and worked with us. We are having it on a Friday so that kept the cost down
The Swan Club looks beautiful, but haven't been there either, but hear good things about it. The Thatched Cottage is also beautiful and I was there a long time ago (12 yrs. ago) but I know someone whose daughter got married there in April and they loved it, and I know someone booked for this April. They seem to be cheaper in April
I thought it would be hard to choose, but we pretty much knew we wanted the Chateau after looking at it and sitting down w/Nick.
Good luck in your search! I hope you find your place soon, it's a big load off when you do

Re: Tell me Your Review for these Reception Halls - Please
here is my insight...and i am obvi biased bc im a chcc bride and absolutely loved every minute of my wedding and wouldnt change a thing!!! (check out my review or fm if you have questions)
that being said, here is feedback based on personal experience at these venues:
swan club - had a cousins wedding there about 7 years ago and it was raining...there were buckets on the floor bc the ceiling leaked. i am sure its fixed by name but it left a bad impression so i didnt even look at them
fox hollow - thought it was great, but imo too expensive
north ritz - wasnt the right feel for me. plus if you want anything outdoors you hear the cars passing by on the road
chateau la mer - had an appointment to check it out (loved that its on the water). we waited 25 minutes before we decided to leave. during that 25 minutes we watched the coat check man flirt with a girl attending the sweet sixteen that was taking place. that just rubbed me the wrong way....inappropriate! we also were waiting and found out that we wouldnt even be able to see the room that we would be getting married in bc that is where the sweet 16 was taking place. not sure why they scheduled the appt for that time - so we just left.
thatched cottage - great place! went to a wedding there and loved it. was a little disappointed by the food though and thought the rooms was a little tight (but that could just be the room they chose)
coral house - had an appt to see the place. while we were waiting dh and i both decided to use the restrooms. we both came out, looked at each other and decided to leave. I thought it was just the ladies room, but apparently it was both...so filthy dirty it was just not a good first impression.
westbury manor - would have prob booked them but they couldnt give us a sat night in the summer
havent been to the rest of the places
imo, chcc was just the best value for the money...the most food choices and different rooms to pick from. hth good luck!

I'm sorry but to me the coral house was a waste, I walked in and out right away.

I'd check out Crest hollow country club or woodbury country club. both places are great for outdoors and crest hollow had really great prices from what I could remember.

You should highly consider Three Village Inn in Stony Brook. It doesn't have the typical 'wedding-mill' vibe, it is located right on the bay in Historic Stony Brook and it is perfect for your budge. Matter of fact, I am getting married there this October (after looking at 20 different reception halls and inquiring about 10 others).
We're having around 120 guests, which this place can easily accommodate. The grounds are gorgeous, and you have free reign on the Village before your ceremony to take pictures. TVI only caters to one wedding at a time and the food is catered by their own catering company, Mirabelle. Guy Rouge is the head chef and is truly phenomenal.
Go there and ask for Kate or John, as they are truly wonderful to work with.

Thank you everyone for your feedback, I have another question. What do you feel are the main questions you should ask before you book a venue. Someone told me one of the questions I should ask is what do you consider a upgrade and the cost. Another person told me everything is also negotiable so try to get things added in for free or talk them down on the price.
Give me your thoughts, suggestions and advice please

Thank You for everyone's help. I booked this week with Westbury Manor!
Is anyone going to get a planner / coordinator?

Re: Tell me Your Review for these Reception Halls - Please
I am of course partial to The North Ritz Club because when I saw it I fell in love. The grounds are beautiful outside (I'm getting married in church so now issues with the car noise). I like the fact that, weather permitting, the cocktail hour is both indoors and outdoors (bars at both). Another huge plus is that it is one wedding at a time so I don't have to feel like I'm sharing my day with anyone. My fiance's friend was married there and they have nothing but 100% positive things to say about them, and even when talking to wedding planners, they say there are no issues ever when working with NRC. Our reception is on a Saturday night in October, so I only know the price for that, but it is a bit pricey compared to the other sites that you mentioned. I also had to guarantee a minimum of 200 people.
On some of your other options...
Swan club is beautiful, but went to a wedding there and about half the party got food poisoning. Can't blame them, since it can happen anywhere, but couldn't get that out of my head when looking at places.
Coral House has been completely redone, and although it wasn't an option for our wedding, I am having my bridal shower there (yes, it's not a surprise)
I was just in a wedding a Fox Hollow and I was so turned off I would never recommend it to anyone. Food was awful, wait staff didn't speak english (literally had no idea what I was asking about on on the menu), no shots were allowed at the bar (although that may have been what the couple paid for), maitre de was the biggest pain in the a** and so obnoxious that I wanted to smack him by the end of the night, and the bridal attendant didn't know how to do anything for the bride. If not for us in her bridal party, I'm not sure anything would've worked out. I have heard other great things about them, but my experience was absolutely horrible. I've actually made a list of what went wrong to let NRC know exactly what I expect of them.
Venetian Yaht Club is pretty with a nice view, just wasn't crazy about the outside grounds. I have heard the food is really good though, and when we got prices, their quotes were really reasonable.
Good luck with planning!

Re: Tell me Your Review for these Reception Halls - Please
I got married at Westbury Manor on a Saturday night and all I can say is the place is AMAZING!! We had our ceremony at another location only because the date that we picked didn't have the option of having the ceremony there, but if we had the choice we would have done it there hands down! The outdoor ceremony area is beautiful! And the way that they set it up with the flowers and all is gorgeous..We had our cocktail hour outside and it looked great and the food was amazing! We are still getting raves about the food and the hall. The staff was amazing as well and handled everything so I can honestly say I had absolutely nothing to worry about.
Here are some things for you to think about though: -If you have your wedding there your cocktail hour start time will be 8:30 and in July/August it will probably be dark by then (we were actually considering an August date as well but decided on May because it would still be light out and plus we had our ceremony elsewhere so our cocktail hour started earlier, at 8pm) -The price per person that I got per person for Saturday night in August 2012 was somewhere around 100pp but not including tax and service charge (if you're interested in exact amount i have the quote somewhere at home and can find it for you). It may be more now since from previous posts im noticing that pricing for 2013 for most reception halls has gone up.
