terrified of the wedding

terrified of the wedding

Ok first off don't get me wrong. I can't wait to get married. I love my FH and am looking oh so foward to being his wife. However I am terrified of having the actual wedding. I am a middle child and have always just blended into the background. My sisters are always the center of attention and no one ever really noticed me. Which is fine with me. But for my wedding it will be about me. Everyone will be looking at me. I started to hyper-ventalate just from trying dresses on. I broke out in hives and almost fainted. I was rather embarrassed. The closer it gets the more scared I get. Does any one else feel this way? Any one have any ideas on how to cope? I am a blusher and don't want to look sunburned in all my pictures . Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Re: terrified of the wedding

Just breathe. Funny thing is that I am also the middle child and def. never the center of attention. When I got engaged I remember telling my FH that I dont want a big wedding because I HATE being the center of attention. But then I started getting into the whole wedding thing that I really was looking forward to it. I mean I never get to a point where I hyper ventilate..but I do get nervous every once in a while, which I think is normal. And the closer the wedding gets the more nervous you will become, but remember to take everything one step at a time and just breathe.

Just keep in mind that it is okay to stand out once in awhile....You only get married once and this is your time to shine...Kinda think of it as a birthday party maybe.... I hope this helps but i mean really pretend it is your 21st birthday all over again!!!! (don't drink as much) I am sure you will look beautiful no matter what...But if you think of it as one big birthday maybe you won't get so anxious about it....

Just a thought (HTH)

I am the kind of person who loves a bunch of attention. But, my cousin is the opposite. She likes to blend in to the background and is kind of quiet. She got married last year and got through it just fine. I think that she was just so excited to be marrying her husband that she didn't think about it.
She didn't do the garter and the bo-k tosses, which is one less moment for people to stare ate you. You can also make your first dance shorter and maybe ask your bridal party to join in after the beginning of the song.
You will be fine. You will just be so happy that day that you won't even think about it

Re: terrified of the wedding

thank you all so much for the advice. As for the valium, I was going to ask my doc for a sedative for the honeymoon plane ride. I'll just have to ask for extra to get thru the wedding My fh says not to worry that he will be by my side the whole time and will get me thru it.
I love the birthday party idea too. I think that will help but def with drinking less. maybe then i will remember the wedding. my 21st birthday is all a blur

I get where you are coming from but just think, it's a party for you!!! Everyone WANTS to be there with you and your FH is there for you!! You will look beautiful and everything will be great!!! Calm down and enjoy it, it'll be over before you know it!

I am the middle child as well -and my sisters were always the one's getting all the attention.

This is our day to shine and have all the attention for a change! Don't worry about a thing! You deserve it and you need to just enjoy it!

I am the same way!! I blush and get really nervous as the center of attention.
I think I'm gonna need something to calm my nerves too!

Remember your DH will be at your side through out the day..

and if that doesnt help- ZOLOFT! you'd definatly have to see a doctor MONTHS in advance for it to actually help you out though

Personally I'm a big fan of Xanax

I totally know how you feel. I am really uncomfortable being the center of attention. I am DREADING the whole being announced thing at the reception.

Deep breaths and sedatives!!!

Re: terrified of the wedding

don't worry i am the same way - i am so shy i do not want any attention on me. . . i absolutely detest it!

we werent even going to get announced into the reception but i want to honor our parents and announce them so i couldnt very well announce OTHER people and then just walk through the side door or something!

i am just not doing anything exta to call attention to myself and hopefully everyone has a wonderful time enjoying the party - i even asked my DJ not to make a big deal if i danced a little and DEFINITELY not to call us up to dance ( besides the slow dances of course). . . .

as for the hives - my derm. told me to take claritin for two weeks before the wedding so in case i forgot to take it that day it would still be in my system ( i break out in hives from the cold weather, its really sexy you should see it)

dont worry you have FH there to help you out - unfortunately MY FH hates the spotlight as much as i do! lol

ETA: if you plan on taking something definitely try it out first - you dont want to fall asleep at your own wedding bc you took a valium! LOL

I was nervous too- I didn't want everyone staring at me, being the center of attention, all that. But on that day, you are just in a different place. I don't know how to describe it, but its like its just you and your FH(now DH) and everyone else just blends into the background. You will be fine - just focus on the real meaning of the day instead of everything else.

I'm always a nervous wreck too. I may be taking some Xanax that day to calm me down if need be. I break out into hives/blush when I'm nervous and start to sweat. Ugh, I hate being the center of attention and I'M AN ONLY CHILD!
Believe me, you're not alone.
