I guess I just don't think about it.
You just have to have faith- and I guess faith is something I've 'picked up' since 9/11 and I'm not scared anymore, because I now in the end we will win.

As someone who lives and works in Manhattan (and my wedding is in 4 weeks- the day before the RNC), it is definitely a fear of mine. But except for getting on the subway 10 minutes later than usual- and having an exit strategy, it is not really affecting my life.

There is no place you can be safe from terrorism. And the whole point of terrorism is to TERRORIZE you into not goign about with your normal routines. There is really nothign anyone can do to avoid terrorism other than moving to the middle of Iowa or somewhere... but then again, Oklahoma City was the victim of an American terrorist... so there really isn't any safe space. Just be alert, be careful, have plans and go about life.

So there are a couple more checkpoints around the city. Some tunnels are closed off to commercial traffic.

The city in the end is no different than normal.

Quote from NY1.com

All of New York City has been under the equivalent of orange alert since the September 11, 2001, attacks, and officials say there are no plans to raise the city to red, the highest level.

When they raise the NYC terror alert to Red... then ill get concerned. But for now... no sense worrying about what you cannot control.

DJPill...I agree!!!

And to be honest....you know what I think...NY falls asleep and I don't think this high security is going to last more than a week tops. I seriously hope not but unfortunately, it is a sad pattern. 9/11 happened and the airport security was tight for a month and then curbside check-in started up again. It just sucks!!!!!

I wish you all a safe time and patience to deal with this and I HOPE nothing will happen.

Actually I think this 'higher level of security' will be going on intermittently between now and through the convention.

You are gonna have your security threats now. Then you have the convention (more threats). Then Labor Day weekend (all holiday weekends have threats). Then the Sept 11th anniversary (duh).

So anyone that gets easily scared by stuff like this is in for a long six weeks cause I don't see anything changing till at least after Sept 11th (six weeks or so).

That's a good point! Then after 9/11 anniversary. You think it will keep going? I doubt it. We'll see! I wish we were this safe everday!!

After 9/11 you probably won't see a high terror alert till around xmas and New Years... which happens every year.

The only reason why these terror alerts are such news is because the 'NATIONAL alert level' is normally low (at yellow level I believe). They have to raise the national level because its the places outside the city that normally run a lax security (and IMO more of a target).

The city has been on high terror alert (orange) since 9/11 and hasn't changed.

We in the US have been so lucky to have lived in a country where this was not an issue for so long. Unfortunately, we are now in the majority.

So true. FH is from Israel. He was in the army (as were his sisters) and lived through a bunch of attacks. His sister was almost killed in one (Someone shot the window of the store she worked at screaming Allah akbah). Its hard to see it, but we are probably living in the safest country around- except maybe Canada.

According to AMNY- they found detailed drawings and reports about very specific details about these buildigns. They found analysis of how many pedestrians are on the street at specific times and how to get into the buildings.

I think there is some good chatter- they picked up a major player in Pakistan this week. Although I agree with you, a lot of this stuff is bull sh*t, I would prefer that they were aware and let us know something than not.

Remember, there was a lot of chatter before 9/11 and they didnt' do anything. ALthough these terror alerts may scare people (me included), I would rather be scared and have nothing happen than not worry and be hit by terrorists.

i couldnt agree more. basically they're damned if they do, damned if they dont. wasnt the 9/11 commission just trying to determine whether the bush administration had warnings and didnt tell us? now they have very specific info that they're sharing, yet everyone complains about it.
i still live in nyc and still work in the financial district (from where i ran on 9/11 after watching the planes strike fr my office window 4 blocks away). obviously i know the threat is always still here and anything can happen when we least expect it but i actually appreciate these wakeup calls (much as they scare me horribly) so that maybe everyone will pay just a bit more attention to whats going on around them (and me).

i can't win....i feel like i am screwed. now that i moved to central NJ i take the train to Penn Newark every day and the Prudential bldng is like a block away....and then i go to the hellhole of Penn NYC and I am in the middle of a war zone.

I am going to look on monster.com right now...i need to get out of the city....

I know how you feel! I come from LI to the city everyday, and I'm honestly just so tired of being scared to go to work every time there's a new warning on the news! Last night at DH's parents house, I was gettign so nervous just watching the hews that FIL just gave me his card and told me to call him if ANYTHING happens (he works in midtown too) I just don't know what to do anymore - it's either feel safe and work on the island, but get paid less, or keep working in the city with my current pay, and worry all the time Ugh - you're so right - you just can't win!!

lol- Let me know how your monster search goes!!
