I think the idea that capturing Sadam would cause resentment may be a reason al-Qaida would want to retaliate against the 'evil Americans' but don't foget bin Ladin is still out there...and there are tons of bin Laden and Hussein supports not caught...
NY will not change much...but DH and I were in shock in October...when we were told that San Diego doesn't check IDs after the check in point - or do random security checks)..so there have been areas of the country that were laxing their poilicies...
so on our news they said get to the airport early...you may be in line for 30-45 mins...We had to laugh...that sounds normal to us...

Re: Terror Threat Level RAISED again!!
I can only speak for the places I have been in the last year but several did not require ID to board the plane. I don't think it has any impact on security. Whether or not you have to show ID once or twice is not going to deter a terrorist.

Re: Terror Threat Level RAISED again!!
They up the level pretty much around every holiday. It doesn't really scare me, actually when they up the level there is more security around (visible). It's a catch 22- if they up it people complain, but if they didn't and God forbid something happened the people would be pissed. At least it gibes you the option to decide if you want to travel or not, and to keep your own eyes open for anything suspicious.
last year when the war started - we were told by our school (where I worked) that if it went to red during the school day (which was being reported as a possibility) that we would be in lock down and not be able to leave...
I was SO furious about this...how can they keep people hostage? I have family that I want to get home to...
