I am so torn over this one. I feel for both her husband and her family. If she told her husband she would not want to live this way then why did he wait 8 years to petition for removal of her feeding tube? I just think it is a horrible way to die, this poor woman suffered so much.

So sad. I feel bad for both parts and her. What a horrible way of living. May god be with her.

I can't help feeling that this is not right???? She isn't dying of natural causes, you know? I think if her parents want to care for her then they should be allowed too.

Haven't they removed the tube before only to reinsert it?

I never thought about it that way, it really is so sad! Isn't her husband engaged or dating, I wonder if he can't get married again if she stays alive? So sad...

But if left to let nature take its course, the tube would never have been inserted, and she would have died immediately. We play G o d to keep her alive, but yet it is different when it is a matter of letting her die? Humans interfered to the extent that they did to keep her alive. And the husband has been trying for 8 years to have the tube removed, as soon as her doctors said it was a lost cost. It has been in and out of the courts ever since. It's not like this case just started--it's been in the news on and off for over 5 years.

PREPARE a LIVING WILL! This is why.
ETA- I dont think that its a good idea for gov't to step in on invidual cases and decided who should live or die. I feel bad for the situation but I am glad that I judge ruled that the courts shouldnt rule.

I understand what you are saying. I just think that you can't undue what has already been done. Removing a feeding tube isnt like turning off a respirator, it will take her 2 weeks to die... all the while starving to death. It is not right.

Re: Terry Schiavo Feeding Tube Removed
In the beginning I thought the parents were selfish and that's no way to live. But the more I read about it the more I;m on their side. She was talking about divorce when the accident happened. There were signs of broken ribs and bones, and he left her face down for the paramedics. Plus he's started a new family. I think he just wants her out of his life so he can remarry, or according to some article I read (not sure how true it is) to cover up strangulation, which is how she (according to this article) got that way. I don't feel bad for the husband! Since the husband has a new family now, he should be removed as the decision maker! they should be considered legally separated!
Plus she shows signs of NOT being in a vegetative state. she shows signs of awareness and trying to communicate. SHe has been denied rehab which could possibly help her. I hope they overturn this decision.

She does not have the mental capacity to understand that she is starving to death though.

But shouldn't we do all we can to preserve life?

I don't know if that can be medically proven 100% I say the 'husband' should be left out of it... It should be the parent's decision and they should give her therapy.

I had no idea about the divorce or alleged abuse. I just feel like her parents brought her into this world and he should not be the one deciding if she lives or dies. Actually i am not sure if anyone should decide this other than GOD. I do go back and forth in cases like this though.

I so totally agree- this is ludicrous, especially since she has shown these signs . . . this has truly inspired me to write a living will . . .

I can say that I would not want to live under these circumstances. I am going to write a living will too. It makes things so much easier for your family.

Re: Terry Schiavo Feeding Tube Removed
How long have you guys been following this case. I find it HYSTERICAL that on a WEDDING website you are trying to downplay the sanctity of marriage and take away a spouse's LEGAL rights. The way it works in courts, if there is no living wil, the next closest gets to decide and it goes in this order SPOUSE Adult children then parents
Terry has been diagnosed as being in a 'Persistent Vegetative State' which means she has the absence of awareness.
