Terry Schiavo's parents

Original post by RedHead

Stopped the pursuit to have Terri's feeding tube put back in!

Finally this woman will be at peace...sad but yet comforting

To base an argument entirely on emotion and straw man fallacies is weak and counter-productive at best.

What is wrong with doing this? It's not like the posters of LIW have any say in this...So who (in the scheme of things) cares what our opinions are or whether or not we wish to express them--be them emotionally charged or not...

Because discussions that are triggered by situations like this can serve as more than just polemic fights. They can actually encourage people to examine their values and beliefs. And to posit nothing but devil's advocate statements and flawed arguments of convenience really doesn't do anything for anyone. It doesn't challenge the person saying it because it's a reflexive response and it doesn't challenge the opposition because it's easy to discredit.

Not knowing is not understanding.

I agree completely!

What exactly does this mean?

Not that I need to explain myself but, IT MEANS: that if I don't know the details about something, or don't have all the facts, and don't have a clear understanding about a particular subject, then I won't form an opinion or make any judgements! Is that proper enough for you??

Exactly. Unless you have seen this firsthand or have a family member in a similar situation, I don't think it is possible to fully understand exactly what it would be like. It is the difference between empathize and sympathize. In empathy there is understanding.

will there be a spinoff about proper grammar?

I stand by my convictions that a self-proclaimed knowledgeable, educated professional, should be able to express herself in grammatically proper terms.

there's no comma between 'professional' and 'should'

Ha!
This is so ridiculous....

The whole situation is sad

The most sickining part of this is these super religious fanatics that are threatning Michael Schiavo and his family! How can they fight so impassionately about one life and think it is OK to take another, It makes me sick

They're the same anti-abortionists that bomb abortion clinics. The same mentality anyway. Ultra religious people scare me. Hypocrites.

Exactly...it's OK to kill an abortion doctor or Michael Schiavo...shouldn't they be concerned about all life!

Moehick and TracyG... you might find this article interesting then. It's another example of the crusaders for life and the sanctity of marriage getting their signals mixed...
