Terry Schiavo's parents

Original post by RedHead

Stopped the pursuit to have Terri's feeding tube put back in!

Finally this woman will be at peace...sad but yet comforting

Look at how much eye opening discussion this case has sparked...the one good thing to come of this whole mess was that it got people to talk...i know i talked to my fiance about it and told him my wishes..

Make sure you get it in writing. If there is one thing that we should ALL agree on, it's that these sort of decisions need to be made and carried out through legal channels, in writing. I know on the NYS Health Dept. site you can get health care proxy forms (which are supposed to be better than living wills).

Kelly~

why would anyone want to express how he or she feels.?

AND i agree..most peopel DO have limited knowledge...of which i have some MORE....which is why i am talking about it more...

AND if you read my last post...i have already said that i am ending the discussion as it is really MUTE at this point.

ALl of us feel passionately about something... and this is one of mine. So if anyone doesn't like how i express that...then they don't have to read my thread

ETA...yo get all in a huff about grammatical errors...we all have things we feel are worth talking about to no end i guess

Speaking of grammatical errors....

Red,
I don't understand why you are so hell-bent on trying to express what you are expressing...

I would like to think that most people on this site have a limited understanding (intellectually, emotionally, etc.) of something like this because we haven't had to go through it.

Let it be...You seem to be getting yourself all worked up...Who cares what we think or feel in our hearts for whatever reason ---and simply wish to express?

You mean 'moot'?
It's one thing to express it, but at some points you became disrespectful. And that's not cool.

No...Really, I won't...

But if you're going to claim to be so knowledgeable and educated then you really should express your thoughts in proper English. In my own (humble) opinion, poor grammar takes something away from the point an educated person is trying to make.

I think it is just that those of us who have gone through this for family members (and in Red's case, at her job), feel strongly that if others saw what it is truly like, perhaps their opinions would be different. Not knowing is not understanding. And to some extent I got upset by this because some of the comments were just hypocritical. Unless you are a Christian Scientist IMO you have no right to say that you only feel that what God wants is the only way. Anyone who has taken medicine, birth control, gone to a doctor, has messed with what might be God's plan for us.

Beth, I agree about the hypocrisy. What bothered me more about much of this debate is that people are substituting opinion for fact and not doing any kind of research into it. To base an argument entirely on emotion and straw man fallacies is weak and counter-productive at best.

What disturbed me were the comparisons of Schiavo to a murderer, and the callousness with which some people viewed him.

well imo..if i spell something wrong it doesn't take away from anything...people understand what i am saying and since i am a fast typer i make many spelling errors...OH WELL IMO

What is wrong with doing this? It's not like the posters of LIW have any say in this...So who (in the scheme of things) cares what our opinions are or whether or not we wish to express them--be them emotionally charged or not...

I stand by my convictions that a self-proclaimed knowledgeable, educated professional, should be able to express herself in grammatically proper terms.

I agree completely! That's why I didn't get too involved in this thread.
The only thing I DO know, is that it's a sad situation.

It means you cannot fully understand the whole situation without knowing all of the facts.

Not that I need to explain myself but, IT MEANS: that if I don't know the details about something, or don't have all the facts, and don't have a clear understanding about a particular subject, then I won't form an opinion or make any judgements! Is that proper enough for you??
