I visited Thatched Cottage today and I am not happy. My appt. was for 4pm. I had to wait for the banquet manager to come for apprx 15-20 min. The place was under construction so it was a little messy. After a tour of the place and a sit down to discuss menu and such...I told the banquet manager that their prices were a little higher than what other places had quoted me for. (that is completly true btw) I was then told that they do not bargin their prices and that was that. When I asked about extra throw in's; I was told those items were all extra $. I have been to 6 other venues before this one and they were all so helpful, worked with my budget and threw in extras too. The place is very beautiful but the service ******. I am not happy.

Re: Thatched Cottage
that was the first place i went to see. i was up and down, i thought their menu sounded great but i wasnt crazy about any of their rooms. although they are re-doing their CH room i felt like it ws a basement. and i felt their main ballroom was cluttered. plus their 'chapel' area was upstairs and they have no elevator....FFIL is in a wheelchair and the room isnt wheelchair accessible

Re: Thatched Cottage
They do make you wait sometimes when you have an app. but everyone there has been very pleasant to me. I also heard that they throw in extras on the day of your wedding.

Re: Thatched Cottage
I never made it there to look for my own wedding, but I was cautious enough because I went on a job interview there last year and all I can say is.....

Re: Thatched Cottage
So sorry about your bad experience!
But if the place treats you like that right off the bat, then at least you know what they are like. There are so many beautiful places that will work with you to get your business. You don't want them to treat you like that on your wedding day!!

Re: Thatched Cottage
almost got hooked with the menu but also I tried to see if they would come down on their price and there was no budge so I had to say no. Was upset but now that I look back I'm happy with my decision.

Re: Thatched Cottage
They gave us an appointment, but when we came, we weren't allowed to go in the room where the CH was going to be as they had an event going on! Why didn't they give us another time?!!

Re: Thatched Cottage
I went there and as soon as they heard I was having a smaller wedding (100 people) they pretty much treated me like I as a bother to them.
I'm sorry you had this experience, but keep looking, there are plenty of great places out there!
FYI- Chateau La Mer is not commission based, so there is no reason for the BM's to try and nickel and dime you. It doesn't benefit them at all. It might be another good place to try.

I was starting to think that the BM just didnt want my business for some reason. the place is beautiful but I want a BM that will listen to me and help with my buget. I going out west (I live in suffolk) on Monday to check out some other places. I hope the BM there is be nicer to me!! Thanks Ladies!!

Re: Thatched Cottage
I went to look at the Thatched Cottage this week as well. Apparently one of their staff members didn't show up or something, and we ended up having to wait a LOT. (Twenty minutes at first, then a few minutes between each thing we did.) Despite this they were very nice, and I didn't feel like I was rushed. The banquet manager took his time with us, and when I finally told him I had somewhere else to be he apologized and threw in a couple of extras for free.
And I know what you mean about the construction, apparently they do this all the time during the week between weddings.
If you're totally turned off from them I wouldn't bother with them anymore, there are plenty of other places to look. But if you still like the site I would try going back. They were willing to work with me on a bunch of stuff.

Re: Thatched Cottage
I have heard this before, but I had a good experience with them. Our BM is Toni-Ann and she was very nice. We are also having a smaller wedding of about 100 people. We loved the place and ended up booking. I have read only great reviews from brides who had their weddings there. However, I would definitely feel the way you feel if I was treated like that. I have had no problems with them so far, and I hope I don't have any on my wedding day! Good luck in your search!

Re: Thatched Cottage
I was not pleased with that place one bit. I waited a 1/2 hr for the bq manger. They never shower me the reception room. It looks nice inside but the outside not so pleased with. There menu was not so great for the price they were charging. On top of the fact of a 20% service charge there is another 20% service charge for the cooks, which I had heard from the other 10 places I looked at.
I am not dissing anyone who booked there this is just my opinion.
There are so many places on LI, I know you will find the right place. Good luck..... Happy Planning....
