The +1 drama begins...

Original post by LindyBride22

So far I've had two people mention bringing dates and we havent even sent out the invites yet! We were planning on inviting people in serious relationships with their dates, as well as older friends/coworkers who may not know a ton of other people.

But if there are a bunch of single in a group of friends we were not planning on inviting them with a guest. Is that wrong? I was out dancing last night and my friend made a comment 'I'm going to have to find a dancing date for your wedding.' He is being invited in a group of 12 dancers that he is friends with, 5 of whom are other singles.

Thoughts?

let him find a dancing partner then, you are in a group with a bunch of other people, he'll be fine

I had quite a few people that I invited without dates. I explained it to them personally and privately before the invitations were even mailed. I also explained that if after I had all of my RSVP's back, if I was able to work a space in for a date, that I would let them know. Everyone appreciated my honesty and my efforts and I did not have anyone bring an uninvited guest.

I like this idea.

This is what we are doing

I dont know about you but the majority of my list are married, engaged, or people in serious relationships. If I added a quest to all the single people if probably only is an extra 10-20 people. I know for a fact the type of people my friends are and they wont just scrape up anyone for the sake of bringing a guest. I think at the age of 21 and older, everyone should have the honor of bringing who they choose. The goal of your wedding is for your guests to have a good time, and if bringing someone with them will help them with that, then so be it. I think anyone bringing a date would know to add money to their gift. It's common sense.

If you think you have a girlfriend who is wanting to bring a girlfriend.. that would be f*ked up and maybe I wouldn't invite that particular person with a guest but I have been really offended in the past by this.. I swore not to do it..
That is the not the part of a wedding that you should be cutting back on.

Just my opinion.. i had to defend the other girl on here..

You have to do what you have to do!! I have had people talk about coming to my wedding that are not even on the guest list!!! They are in for a surprise.

Yikes, sorry about that. I don't have any advice because we are inviting everyone with a +1. That was super important to me.

This—the only questionables for me are like 1 or 2 20 yr old family friends, and like 2 20 year old cousins.

This - and this is my problem too... a few 20 yr old cousins etc.

I really want my wedding to be personal and intimate so no I am not inviting people with +1 just because

Every single person that is invited to my wedding, I will know personally.

I had a few friends say, oh man who am I going to bring or 'I need a boyfriend by then.'

I told them flat out sorry you're coming alone....everyone understood or at least didn't make a big deal about it.

I feel the same as others, I really don't want random people at my wedding, it was very important to me that I kept my list exclusive and only to people that matter in my life

any friend that has a serious relationship will be invited with their partner and the invite will be addressed with both names....no invite will say & guest, just like my STDs they were all addressed with names

If I don't know your name why should you be a part of one of the most important days of my life?!
