Re: the best restaurant on long island?
Peter Lugers is by far the best steak place....the only problem with ruth cris is that unless you like well done steak the way that they cook it is on a very hot metal plate and brought to you that way... so the meat cooks as you eat...as a chefi dont like this way...but it's not to say it bad...but i still like Peter Lugers best

Try North shore steak house on Northern Blvd in Great Neck. It is near Leonards. Very expensive, but excellent.

FH has been to Rothmann's Steak House a few times for accountant year end dinners and he said it is really expensive and very nice.

If you do go to Luger's, you have to go to the one in Brooklyn. It's amazing. The Clubhouse in Huntington is good and so is Teller's in Islip. Teller's is expensive though.

Re: the best restaurant on long island?
I've found Ruth's Chris to be overrated.
The Clubhouse in Huntington has been a favorite of mine. It's been around for years and is on the small/intimate side (not to be misunderstood as romantic.)
I've been meaning to try Teller's. My sister really liked it.
Another great restaurant is 105 Harbor in Cold Spring Harbor!!!

Re: the best restaurant on long island?
I LOVED Ruth's Chris. We went to the one here in San Francisco to celebrate our engagement, and it was so good.
FH loves Peter Leugers and Rothmanns. I guess they're both awesome, but if you're looking for a varried menu, Rothmann's is the one to go with.

'Nothing compares' to this 'grand high poobah' of steakdom, a Williamsburg 'temple of testosterone' (and 'shrine to Dr. Atkins') that's voted the top chop shop in this Survey for the 20th year running; look for a 'glorious porterhouse' that you can 'cut with a butter knife', 'cantankerous' waiters right 'out of central casting', German 'beer-hall' decor and a 'cash-only' policy; in sum, it's 'right on the money' when it comes to the 'best steak in the known world.'
