The Catholic Church made me cry..

The Catholic Church made me cry..

Ok well not the catholic church itself but the b*tchy receptionist that works at mine. I had to call and ask them for a letter of good standing so that I can be a godmother to my cousins baby... the receptionist took it upon herself to tell me that I was not in good standing and I was not a good catholic because as per their records I have not made any donations since 2006. Where in the bible does it say in order to be a good catholic I need to donate money? Regardless she said alot of other things and actually raised her voice at me. One of the things she said was that if she were in charge she would never let us get married there. I think she was having a bad day huh? I do plan on calling the Diocese and speaking to someone about this.

Regardless... todays phone call coupled with Satrudays precana.. and also a lot of other things that happen with my family.. has made both FH and I decide we no longer want to get married in the catholic church.

I am currently looking into other churches and religions. FH was baptised episcopalian so we are looking into that. We had a really really long talk about it last night and we both decided we do not want to raise our kids catholic but we do want them to have religion in their lives..

UGH

so much stress lately

oh and I have a new username.. I dont want to even get into that one!

I peresonally feel that the Catholic Church needs to reform some of their ideas or they wont have any more followers... I have had similar experiences with my church all over money.. that is why we are getting married at the gazebo of our RH.. GL.. faith is in your heart not in your wallet, so dont stress about it

Re: The Catholic Church made me cry..

The only upsetting thing i went through during wedding planning was dealing with receptionists at the rectory... i am getting married at a church outside of my parish so i had to get a letter from my church which i really havent been active in since high school and the woman had the nerve to tell me she didn't want to send the letter to the church we are getting married at!!!! after lots of complaining and a phone call from the priest who is marrying us we got the letter SOOO trust me i feel your pain!

Not the first time too... When we first decided to get married there she did this as well everytime I called.. I grew up going to that church too. My parents gave them alot of money and the only reason we havent donated anything since 2006 is because we moved. Still doesnt mean she had a right to say anything she did.

This is why I feel the way I do about religion. Unfortunately we are getting married in a church because FH's family thinks its important. No problems as of yet but between the pre-cana and 'suggested donation' (more like mandatory), paying off altar boys, etc its gonna cost us over $1000 for something I don;t even care about. And this just makes me more mad.

That's horrible, I'm so sorry.

I have had problems with the people in my parish, which is why I refused to have a Catholic ceremony. It kind of pisses my dad off, but whatever. I'm going to convert to Greek Orthodoxy after we're married and be done with it. I'm not overly religious, but same thing, I want our kids to have religion in their lives, and don't want them being confused. It's not just you and me either...they're alienating a lot of young people.

Join the club. I posted a few weeks ago about the rectory secretary being mean to me and telling me 'whats my rush'

Whats with all these secretaries in the churches NOT being nice?

So sorry she spoke to you like that and you;re having a bad week. I'm sure things will start getting better. Maybe you should call the church and ask to speak to a priest or someone else there.

I was raised episcopalian (I am not religious at all anymore). My parents and sister was married in the episcopalian church with no problems at all. I would definitely look into that option.

Re: The Catholic Church made me cry..

This is why I'm a 'non-practicing' Catholic.

I was brought up Catholic, received all my sacraments, and I do believe its important to have faith but not the way the church TELLS you to.

Remember kids, Jesus loves you no matter how much money you donate!
