Me and FH talk about this all the time. It's ridiculous that with our combined incomes, we make 6 figures and that's not enough for just a regular house in a regular neighborhood on long island. Forget a new car and vacations! I drive around in some of these neighborhoods and always wonder how everyone does it. Unfortunately, this whole economic downturn is gonna hurt all of us getting married in the next few years because no one will lend unless you have perfect credit.

well now we know how alot of people have done it, considering homes are foreclosing left and right, some do it when they shouldn't.

It is very hard now and things are ridiculously priced. We are from queens and wanted to remain in queens. WE looked in the neighborhood both DH and i grew up in and houses start at $600k and those aren't even in great condition. I checked the average price for homes in astoria and it was $800k and up, and not like you get a big home with huge backyard or any of that for the money. DH's parents paid $40k also for their home 30 years ago, right now its worth $860k talk about a large profit. The only thing that has made it easier for us is that both DH and I dont want a house right now, so we looked at buying an apartment. We wanted to stay close to the city at first since we were used to it. ALthough we found out now that bc of DH's promotion we're gonna move to LI since its easier. We'll probably still look for an apartment for now. Its just us two so im fine with it. If we were looking for a house i'd probably be going crazy right now.
