The 'Guest' Issue

The 'Guest' Issue

So I had a conversation with FMIL over the weekend...talking about the wedding she said, oh Aunt so and so and (insert name of boyfriend of the week here) are really looking forward to the wedding....I reply....Aunt so and so isn't invited with a guest....to which I get...well Jenna, she won't come up alone...and I reply...then tell her not to come....I've told EVERYONE that there are no 'guests' unless you're engaged, we can't afford it, I said look, I'm sorry we can't swing it, and she responds...I'LL PAY FOR HIS DINNER.....WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! AM I HEARING THIS RIGHT??? Someone who did NOTHING for this wedding, who hasn't given a PENNY all of a sudden wants to pay for his dinner....well if she thinks I won't take her money she's sorely mistaken, cause I'll take her up on her offer...however, this...again....puts me in an awkward position because now you have this stranger, eating and drinking for free, who we'll probably never see again...because Aunt So and So can't travel alone....SHES 63!!!!!!!!!!!! GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Not to mention I've had to tell MANY people they can't bring guests, so now I look like an @ssh0le who picks and chooses who is invited with a guest and who isnt.

FMIL tells me she's rather her sister bring a guest than her.....ONE SECOND....you think it's APPROPRIATE to introduce a 'GUEST' to your family at your SON'S wedding, I told her, FH would be INCREDIBLY uncomfortable, it's neither the time nor the place to all of a sudden introduce us to someone you've never mentioned.

So now what...do I let FMIL pay and have her sister bring this guy or do I stand firm with my no guest policy, either way I think I lose

Eeeeekkk!
well the first thing that comes to mind is where is FH in this? maybe he should tell her? Would that be easier? I might just have Fh tell her if it were me.

however... i have to say... I'm sooo thankful FMIL isn't like this. All the inlaws I'll be getting are terrific. They do have some bad advice at times... but ultimately they are really sweet amazing people and I'm glad to have that family now as my own (well come Nov). Esp after reading these awful things from some of the girls. I feel for them. however I should mention FH has it a little harder... for my grandmother is a nut job! she is enough to drive anyone insane!!!!!!!!!!

i dont know why people have to get like this ... its your wedding you should be able to do what you want! my FMIL is inviting A VERY LARGE amount of people to our wedding. i just dont feel the need to invite the whole world ... especially people that i dont even know! soooo im with you ... buttttt to keep the peace most of the time i just keep my mouth shut and remind them they are paying for their people haha

If she wants to pay whats the big deal? Dont make a mountain out of a mole hill. Every wedding i been to i really dont pay attention to who brung who. Im looking at the bride and groom & the food lol. dont sweat the small stuff.
