The most TMI question I'll ever ask, but here it goes...

Original post by adelz

For bikini/brazilian waxes - regular wax or sugar wax? I'm looking into this to do in the next few days, but haven't done it before, and am scared shi*less of the PAIN lol.

I'm reading about sugar waxing at 'Shobha' in the city.

Anyway...any recos girls???

you MUST go to my salon! every single person I have sent there has thanked me immensely!

it is owned and run by brazilians

they do not pull the wax off with paper, they pull the wax itself off the area

Ive had tons of brazilians, they are by far the BEST!!! and the least painful

its not a walk in the park but its also not the worstttt thing ever, the top part of your 'area' is the most painful...the inner and butt part is the least painful

take a motrin like 3 motrin before hand
and buy one of those pre wax sprays like someone suggested

im normally only irritated for about 1 one day after

and it lasts me 3-4 weeks

I got to Avenika at Shobha on Madison, and she is awesome. She's super sweet, quick, and very gentle. I have been going to her for years.

Honestly, it's no picnic in the park, but it's not as bad as I think people make it out to be. It's literally painful for a few seconds, and the whole thing is over in less than 10 minutes.

As far as going a week before your wedding, I think you should be fine. Follow the instructions they give you for after, and if you do have a reaction, it will go away before your wedding.

Good luck!!

I go there too! I work on the 12th floor in that building, so I scoot up a floor at the end of the day. I am in and out in like 10 minutes...LOVE IT! I started doing it for FH, but maintain for me now! Its not too bad- the 'top' area is the worse- but its the least amount of padding, so it makes sense. Its not a 'screaming' kind of pain Adelina, you'll be fine!

There is this cream called 'no scream cream'. If you are REALLY scared, u can use that 30 mins before waxing, take 2 aspirins to prevent inflammation, and you should be fine. Im going to do a test run of both brazilian and leg waxing next month to see how it goes and to make sure I dont get too irritated. If it goes well, I def want to do this before my wedding!

The top is what hurt me the most and I would def. say it was a screaming type of pain....I wonder why my experience was soo bad compared to everyone else?

Okay, so I made the appointment for eyebrow threading w/ one of their specialists, and then told them when I go there we'll do a patch test to make sure I don't get irritation I'm going on Saturday so I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Can anyone recommend any hard wax salons in Queens???

Re: The most TMI question I'll ever ask, but here it goes...

if its your very first time unfortunately it will hurt. the level pain also depends on how long the hair is. i know this is a gross thing to say but if its wild down there and long its gonna be very painful on the flipside if the hair isnt long enough (like just recently shaved and growing back) that will be painful too, so make sure you have a decent length going on but not really long. also wear baggy sweatpants and loose cotton panties or even no panties for after the wax because being your first time you will be red, irritated and maybe a little swollen. dont let that scare you off the swelling and redness goes away in a couple of hours and its so worth it afterwards. if you feel like its just too painful maybe tell the girl to do a landing strip or just to clean up the area but not a full brazillian.

I love getting brazilians, but yes it does hurt alot, so worth it afterwards though. I actually heard of this new place called European Wax Center in Merrick I believe.

Supposedly they don't use the strips either, they use just wax. I'm going to try them this summer

I went to J Sisters for 2 years straight!!!! THEY ARE THE BESTTTTTTTTT!!!!! 15 mins you are DONE! They seriously are great. I made the mistake of going somewhere else another time... NIGHTMARE!

ETA: It is going to hurt but I promise J Sisters are the best. Also if you go on a regular basis it will becomes less and less painful and the hair becomes alot less

THIS!!! The first couple of times I went were painful, but after that it was nothing...

Re: The most TMI question I'll ever ask, but here it goes...

Hahaha omg this thread is hilarious...I loled at 'na-na'

I don't think I could ever bring myself to do a full brazilian...I have had 2 bikini waxes done before vacations...so worth it not to have those gross red bumps....but they do see everything really no matter what....they move your underwear around and out of the way to wax

I'll def be doing it before my HM! It's not pleasant, but each strip really hurts for only a second or two.

I've heard nothing but good things about this place! I live in East Northport so I'll def try them out

It's funny, because my nail salon does waxing, but I refuse to get waxed there. I tell my friends 'I'll be too uncomfortable letting them do my nails when they've seen my goods'

So I have been going to a different nail salon for bikini waxing
