The most TMI question I'll ever ask, but here it goes...

Original post by adelz

For bikini/brazilian waxes - regular wax or sugar wax? I'm looking into this to do in the next few days, but haven't done it before, and am scared shi*less of the PAIN lol.

I'm reading about sugar waxing at 'Shobha' in the city.

Anyway...any recos girls???

You might want to try Smooth Skin Factory. Looks like they use the hard wax....

i was originally going to book at a place by my house that uses hard wax, but there's something about 7 brazilian sisters giving me a brazilian wax seems so dependable!!! haha.

this smooth skin factory has great yelp reviews, so maybe i'll try there... i think i need moral support. i already told FH he owes me.. not sure WHAT, but he owes me something!!!

Sugar wax is really really good. I've been getting brazilians forever and its by far the best thing I've ever had used on me.

It's not that painful, so don't let anyone scare you.

I'm currently in the process of having laser done on my entire body, brazilian bikini included, so yea, a little wax is nothing in comparison!

Just take a painkillier an hour before if you're really that freaked out.

This is good to hear re: the sugar wax. My main concern is that since it's my 'first time' that I will get a lot of irritation or something. That's the worst that can happen since we're leaving for our honeymoon a day after the wedding.

There is something that she can apply once she's done...its a soothing/cooling gel and it usually does a great job at minimizing the redness...

I haven't gotten one in like 3 months (since I started the laser hair removal) but it would hardly ever last past just the first couple of hours after leaving the salon. I'm sure you'll be ok. It'll be well worth it

Yeah. I tried sugar wax before converting to hard wax. It left me really irritated, and the hard wax doesn't seem to bother me. My .02

you MUST go to my salon! every single person I have sent there has thanked me immensely!

it is owned and run by brazilians

they do not pull the wax off with paper, they pull the wax itself off the area

Ive had tons of brazilians, they are by far the BEST!!! and the least painful

its not a walk in the park but its also not the worstttt thing ever, the top part of your 'area' is the most painful...the inner and butt part is the least painful

take a motrin like 3 motrin before hand
and buy one of those pre wax sprays like someone suggested

im normally only irritated for about 1 one day after

and it lasts me 3-4 weeks

sonias waxing

i use bia in the northport location!

also 2 things

make sure you tell them how much you want them to take off

if they say you want 'full brazilian?' they will take it alllll off, like pre-pubescent lol!

so tell them if you want a strip, a triangle, a heart lol and yes im serious!!!

2, they have sensitive wax too so you can always go that route if youre worried

I love the TMI conversations!! I did my first wax at Shoba a few years ago and the lady was so great!! Like someone said, they trim you a bit first and then they get started...As a newbie (who only does it for vacations and special evenings...LOL) it does hurt but not like the fear that you are thinking, the hype is alot worse than the actual experience. It really is like your eyebrown but usually a larger area at a time...some 'rips' hurt a little more than others but overall you will be just fine!!! And I agree the lower and 'back' area is alot easier. I am a very free comfortable person but my waxer got real personal with me at the end when you she was adding some 'cream/anti-inflammatory make it better' at the end, I was like 'did you just part me'...LOL sorry if TMI but I actually blushed... ...And then I figured, 'hey she looks at goodies all day long.... so eh, I guess it is all good. Moral of the story is you will be fine and if they know you are a newbie they will talk you through it and make it comfy.

Do you still go to Shoba??? They're on the top of my list for eyebrow threading lol (I've also never touched my eyebrows). Oh my goodness, this reminds me of the first time I went to a gyno and literally was bawlllinnnnng the entire time. This better not be the same case

Good to know!!! Thank you! And I'll check out your place and look into it. I'm such a baby when it comes to these things!!!

Yup, when I go...LOL And their threading is great...I wish I could do it more often but right now, mani/pedis and weekly hair salon visits are winning, with a sprinkle of eyelashes and electrolysis!! LOL but I digress!!

Either way, I sympathize because I remember being so scared but really after it was done, I was like OK not so bad, I can see why people do this often!! Put it this way, after you are done you will more than likely do it again...You will be fine!! I promise...the biggest issue I had after was I had trouble peeing...LOL I think that with all of the hair gone, my 'goodies' were confused...LOL But I got used to that! oh and I never get it all off, I get a little narrow landing strip...I wanted to feel young but not pubescent...LOL

Okay, if I'm big enough of a girl to get married and be living with a real life boy, I can get my 'goodies' waxed. I can't believe I'm gonna do this LOL

I'm such a baby -

This entire conversation made me cringe. I'm so scared, but I totally want to get waxed before the wedding. However, I don't think I want to do a full brazilian - I don't think i'm reading for the speading and knee holding stories I've heard. I've never even gotten my bikini line waxed. I just keep telling myself - baby step.

I love eyebrow threading though - i know that was brought up, lol. I got for the areas with less hair.

How PAINFUL is it really?

And the next question...is it a stupid idea for me to get it a week before the wedding, when I've never done it before, and will be on my way to the honeymoon right after??? I'm worried about irritation...

Crashing.... I used to get a brazilian monthly until i had the money to get laser hair removal. It is sooo worth it! I brought a magazine each time and read that. And by 'reading' I mean used it to shield my face from her so she couldnt' see my reactions lol but i went back allt he time because it wa s SOOOOO worth it!! I think you will be ok, honestly I would go 1 week before. I find that after 2 weeks, it starts to grow back a bit and then you get that itchy ingrown hair discomfort lol
